darren styles = ultrabeat (or half of it, not sure)

scott brown = Q-tex/Plus system/and about 50 more

and there are probably loads more dj's with crap loads of aliuses, but these are what come to mind first.

its just a way of determining different styles ppl dip into.

Darren Styles is in no way connected to Ultrabeat! You mean Recon/Mike Discala (sp)

Theres many reasons for different names. Like Xtarsia says, it could be to do with different styles. Sometimes it can be to distance themselves from particular tracks (in the case of dubious sampling ;-) ). Sometimes it can just be to get out of the spotlight for a bit - The Prodigy did a few gigs under a secret name for that reason. Joey Negro does that so that he doesn't end up pigeonholed, and is free to do what he likes.

Theres other reasons too that are more business based.

LOL!! sometimes they use their different names wen they are tryin out a new style of hardcore, like if a normally hard dj produces a cheesy song and doesnt really want it associated with his/her main name. And q-tex etc aint just scott brown they are live pa's thats y they go under a diff name.

Sy and Unknown= Chedder (for the mid 1990s classics) and Sy also goes by The Vampire (or used to)

Slipmat is known as Slippery Project, SMD (Slipmat Dubs) and S&L (Slipmat and Lime) back in the old skool days with Lime.

Vibes and Wishdokter also went by Raver's Choice and Ham might go as Eclipse. I have done much study and you would find most of this out on Discogs: http://e.discogs.com/

Now thats a name I havn't heard for a few years. I remember hearing tunes by him (under that name), Pez Tellet and Lee Butler back in my old trendy Yates days ...back when scouse house was good.

Luna-C is verified hardcore artist

If an artist is very quick in the studio, then he can maake at least 1 tune a week - most hardcore, especially back in the day when no one used live vocals really, can be made quite quickly.
However, if an artist releases a record every 2 weeks under the same name, it will look bad. People assume that if you are making things fast, you probably aren't taking good care of the music. This is not alwayss the case - some people are just bursting with ideas. Others need a long time per track. Plus the technology has advanced to a point where you can produce that quickly without sacrificing ideas. However, you cant keep thhat pace up for long. I used a lot of names in Kniteforce, but it wore me down and within a few years i was bust.
I maintain 3 well used names...Luna-C, Cru-l-t and Psycangle.
All the Luna-C records are the best i can do for my own personal love of making music. Doesn't mean they sell best, but they satisfy the urge that makes me want to create. I usually have a big plan and a set of ideas, usually evolving around a theme or way to structure a track when I make a Luna-C release. these records are me making music regardless of thought about sales or whats cool or what will people respect.
I use Cru-l-t for projects which i restrain my style a bit, and try to make something that i can play to a crowd and they will dance to. Someof my Luna-C releases, well...they are more for the head thann for the feet, I think.
Psycanlge is for gabba.
For me, each of these naames is a different artist - I feel different when i make those tracks. If i wake up feeling like Psycangle, gabba is what comes.
The reason Luna-C may still do gabba sometimes is because thats my unrestricted self and I will use any element of any style when i am Luna-C. However, you will never hear a Gabba Cru-l-t track or an old skool Psycangle track because thats not what they do.

Sorta complex huh?

The other names I have dropped as they became pointless to me. I only use them if remixing a record from when those artists were there lol...thats my reasons, anyway.
