im looking at getting a sound system for partys.. ive got about 1k to spend though i can go slightly higher if there is something jsut outside my budget that isnt worth ignoring..
anything considered.. i think id like a mixer aswell so i can get the speakers and mic's going through that instead of directly out of the mixer. nothing fancy though just something that will do the job
cheers

I would recommend a set of 4 peaveys.

I'm sure you'd have to pay a little more than a grand (1st hand) with power amps and all but they are worth every penny and will be enough even for a largish hall (I'm obviously talking small time here :)).

Aye will do that hall no probs.
I would have to go to the shop we rented them from to check out model numbers but all Peaveys I've used have been decent speakers. We have a couple of double fifteens on our rig and they're wicked too :)

don't know if they sell them in the UK but I'd recommend some b52's. get two tops, two subs, some monitors (don't think they make those) & an uber amp.

after visiting a store that sold second hand gear i decided that new is the only way i want to buy, and that is all there really was in my price range..
there was this but its pushing the money situation a bit, and im not sure itll be much better?

Never used Mackie but I've heard good things. You did well avoiding behringer they make horrible speakers.
