A thought popped into my head while I was perusing my music collection the other day, and that was which song I thought was the best remix I'd heard. It's a very different question to asking what's the best song you've heard... whether the song you name is an original or a remix, you're just basing it on how it compares to other songs. But remixes, in a category of their own, are a whole different kettle of fish. You get so many remixes that just change a few notes, or up the tempo (i.e. Re-Con's remix of Insane) and really don't do anything special with the song; at least not on a technical level.
So I figured that what would define the best remix would be something that remains true to a remix, having enough likeability to the original that it's not a cover, yet still has changed vastly enough that you can hear the technical brilliance that's gone into producing the mix. Of course technicality isn't the only thing, the producer needs to carefully balance this with making the song sound good; at least as good as the original, hopefully better. The final, and most difficult aspect I think, is managing to leave a distinct mark on the song, saying this remix was done by me and this is my sound, but without making it so that the distinct sound of the original producers is lost either.
I went through my collection, listening to lots of originals and remixes, and in the end I decided to tip my hat in V.A.G.A.B.O.N.D's direction. Man that guy has got some talent, overall, but his remixes are the bomb. The song I decided was the best remix was none other than Brisk & Ham - Serious Hardcore (V.A.G.A.B.O.N.D Remix). The way you can see the evolution of the song from it's very first inception, Stimulant DJ's - Are You Serious?, a wicked Hard House track, into a pitched up Freeform stormer, then V.A.G.A.B.O.N.D comes along and twists it into an insidious, dark, acidic track, but you can still hear all the right elements that make it the Brisk & Ham original. Brilliant track!
Anyway, I talk too much, and I wonder how many people are actually going to read all that! All the same I'm quite interested to see what people think, both about my crazy definitions of good remixes, and what they think the best remix is.

Luna-C & Dair - Ready 2 Rumble (Panacea Remix)
Luna-C - Xpander (Panacea Remix)

that remix of Angel Eyes is horrible
first time I heard it I was like wtf, what a piece of crap.
I'd say the best remix is the Breeze & Styles remix of 24/7
