Well, it is a lot difefrent to it was ten years ago! Although it depends on what genre of Hardcore we are talking about. Hardcore changed alot from 1993-1997, from the breakbeat piano 'Feel good' tracks by Vibes, Dougal and Slipmatt's SMD volumes. By 1997 there was hardly any break beats (except maybe for the intos and outros) and it had a more stomping bassline feel to it and more vocals lead by the likes of Demo, Antisocial and Innovate!

In 2003, Upfront Uk Hardcore had taken a trancy vocal twist, faster than club music yet not as stomping as mid to late 1990s Happy Hardcore. By 2006 there had been changes to the Mainstream sound but not too much, listen to Hixxy's mix on Bonkers 11 (Forevolution) and then Hixxy's mix on Bonkers 16 (Maximum Hardcore Energy) and it dosn't sound too different.

Hixxy's mix Bonkers 1 (1996) sounds very different to Hixxy's mix on Bonkers 7 (Millennium fevor) in 1999!

Freeform is a difefrent story and has latly been adding more Bouncy style infulences and some vocals. Other styles that I have noticed is the more 'Acid/Electro' which seems to be comming out. Don't know much about Gabber as it isn't my thing as such but there is also alot of demand for breakbeat stuff such as Hardcore breaks and 'Nu Old skool' stuff.

wouldn't class it as a set! its a mix of the then current tracks hiixxy put on an album slightley mixed!
But to answer the question! production wise Hardcore has evolved no end! but for tunes not at all! Don't see anything now that hasn't been done before!

Well, it's definetely evolved from the Sounds in 2000-2001 ish. I'd agree it hasn't really evolved that much since 2002, and the only way it has evolved, is for the worst.

It's evolving slowly but not nearly as much as it should. Sy and Unknown are starting to incorporate electro and oldskool sounds in their sets which you can hear on the latest Hardcore Euphoria. Think these two are pushing hardcore foward the most. Also Thin N Crispy label is doing some exciting stuff with Nustyle basslines and oldskool riffs. Al Twisted and JFX are really impressive too. Darren Styles track Nightmare and Jealous are very foward thinking too. More pianos and less trance is way foward. Electronic music has so many other awsome sounds you hear which would work so well in hardcore. As brilliant as producers like UFO, Weaver, Scott Brown and Hixxy are. They're not foward thinking with tracks. They keep using the same continous unimagitive trance sounds. Gatecrasher was seven years ago LOL

^^ Gotta disagree with some of that, Sy & Unknown imo haven't hardly changed their styles at all, as has been said before, it would be hard to tell the difference between a track they could make this week comapred to one 4 years ago.

Dunno how you could compare the sounds UFO, Weaver, Scott Brown and Hixxy use to Gatecrasher either, you obviously haven't heard much real trance!

To be honest if I were looking for new sounds and 'forward thinking' hardcore I'd be looking towards Dougal, Gammer, Darwin, Luna-C, Cube::Hard etc etc, but definatly not Sy or Darren Styles! While I like alot of their stuff, I think they focus more on making solid tracks and anthems that they and alot of people seem to like, rather than trying to push the boundaries. All just imo ofcourse.

well, simply put, if music of ANY genre didn't change it would simply die off from everyone being so sick of it, thats probably why hardcore has made it for so long: almost every (or sometime every other) year and artist has an almost completely new and unique style, and as long as this trend continues, hardcore will probably never truly die (just change :P)

Freeform grew from Trancecore which has it's roots in 1996 as a more darker, yet still stomping style of Hardcore. It was named Freeform in 1999 By Sharkey who along with Kevin Energy and Marc Smith were developing the sound away from Happy Hardcore but with a less club feel. Some people used to call the trancy vocal stuff 'Trancecore' but now it seems to be known as 'Upfront Hardcore' or 'Uk Hardcore' although the style has apeard in other countries now.
