i dont know how excited the mainstreaming of hardcore makes me, maybe its good maybe not. either way hardcore is clearly back on the up since the the decline after the mid 90s.

look at old stuff, old being a few years and then look at the newest stuff, its changing so much, and for the better! and i think it will continue to become rapidly more and more progressive and mainstream! exciting times
It may be evolving, but it sure as hell isn't hardcore. Almost without exception the artists mentioned on this thread are producing pop trance orientated cheesey, commercial clubland shite. Hardcore my ****ing arse.

If you compare some of the newer stuff (ie. HH4) to older stuff (ie. the first Bonkers), you can't tell it's even the same genre imo.
I prefer new stuff, but hope it doesn't become too mainstream (that tends to be when stuff takes a turn for the worst) and wish clubland would leave it alone. Some of the tracks on the clubland x-treme hardcore cds are ok, but a lot of them are dire.

Dunno how you could compare the sounds UFO, Weaver, Scott Brown and Hixxy use to Gatecrasher either, you obviously haven't heard much real trance!
To be honest if I were looking for new sounds and 'forward thinking' hardcore I'd be looking towards Dougal, Gammer, Darwin, Luna-C, Cube::Hard etc etc, but definatly not Sy or Darren Styles! While I like alot of their stuff, I think they focus more on making solid tracks and anthems that they and alot of people seem to like, rather than trying to push the boundaries. All just imo ofcourse.
Sorry, have to disagree mate.. Luna C is not foward thinling.. Sounds the same as he did in the early years. Sy and Unkown and Dougal are using electro sounds in their hardcore now as well as nu style house riffs. Styles is using sounds in tracks like nightmare which has never been done before. Also you tell me when the last time electo riffs were used in hardcore?? It's never been done dude, so thats foward thinking. Weaver, Hixxy and UFO say they were influened by Djs like Tiesto and Corsten in the early 99-2000 era with their productions which was pure Gatecrasher trance back then. So think you should get your facts right man, cause their completly wrong unfortunately! And Weaver and Ufo are not foward thinking. They sound the same as they did five years ago which is kinda sad..

Unfortunatly for you it seems you have to read interviews or something to get facts, I just rely on my ears. Hixxy & UFO might have been influenced by Tiesto and Corsten but their stuff still doesn't sound like Gatecrasher stuff, and never really has. Luna-C might still have the same style he has had for a while, but his tracks don't all sound the same, which is more than I can say for Sy & unknown.

It depends on what you listen to. He makes and releases a lot different of sounding material. It says a lot that he releases all types of hardcore. Gabber, kick led, breakbeat , freeform, hardcore breaks and even some breakcore on his label
I run these streets, My Angel, Mindrider all made by him (The last made with his wife) are all innovative pieces of music. Grab a copy of Audio Outlaws and listen to innovative hardcore in all its glory.

Have to agree with Clarke, Luna-C is one of the most innovative & forward thinking artists producing hardcore. He has been for a number of years.

Think these two are pushing hardcore foward the most. Also Thin N Crispy label is doing some exciting stuff with Nustyle basslines and oldskool riffs. Al Twisted and JFX are really impressive too. Darren Styles track Nightmare and Jealous are very foward thinking too. More pianos and less trance is way foward. Electronic music has so many other awsome sounds you hear which would work so well in hardcore. As brilliant as producers like UFO, Weaver, Scott Brown and Hixxy are. They're not foward thinking with tracks. They keep using the same continous unimagitive trance sounds. Gatecrasher was seven years ago LOL
yeah, i agree to an extent, but i love trance aswell as piano, why cant we just keep both, and include electro/old skool into some tracks aswell to keep modern hardcore in connection with its retro past, everyone loves a bit of nostalgia right :D also tracks which dare to use guitar sound awesome too, so theres no reason why if a track is carefully constructed, it shouldnt sound great and progressive aswell. I think there are a fair few producers atm who just bang out anything and some songs don't sound good musically. i think by getting more people in the know about producing, we could develop much more young talent and more care will go into what they produce

Yes alot of sy and unknown stuff does sound similar i have to agree.. But it is unique. If Raver Baby producers don't sound like trance, then what does it sound like. It's the same synth riffs as loads of old trance tracks, not only that its remixs of heaps of old trance tracks like castles in the sky, Apollos dance etc. We'll have to agree to disagree, big respect to ya for being passionate about hardcore;)
