Arrests as illegal rave shut down
About 500 people gathered for an illegal rave in a disused car showroom in Manchester.
Dozens of officers were sent to the site on Hyde Road, Belle Vue, after receiving reports of the event on Saturday night.

A very small proportion of the crowd became aggressive and police arrested four people for public order offences, though nobody was injured.

Roads were blocked as the crowd left, causing some traffic problems.

Heard about it earlier today. The trouble came from a small minority. Police in general in Manchester are usually OKish when breaking up parties.

Its just down the road from me!
I think people get more of a buzz at illegal races cos its the feeling that you could get busted but theres no rules!
Does that make sense?

You should have gone Kathryn :)

While I've unfortunately not been to any free raves, I'm aware of several advantages: firstly the music is generally better, secondly drugs can be used and sold a lot more freely. There is the fact that it's an underground thing and not just essentially a club event with Hardcore.

Not familiar with any parties round that way. I find the inner city ones can be pretty cack tbh...

We took our rigg to a multi rigger in an office block in London and it was just the sketchiest party I've ever been to! Some gang was on the door charging people £5 to get in... Weren't even part of one of the riggs as far as we knew. We were greeted by a man sat on the stairs who had his trousers and shoes stolen and had been given a right kicking. Someone got stabbed and a whole load of people got mugged and got in fights :s Not my idea of a good night.

That was an extreme one but I do find all inner city "free parties" are dodge. Never been to a Manchester one but no doubt it's just as bad...

If you want to go to a free part get yourself to the countryside :) Much better.

It really sucks that a few parties seem to be getting aggressive towards the police atm. Gives everyone a bad name. The police are just doing there job if they come in and tell them to shut down they should just do what they say.
