Hundreds of CD's, a load of mixes and stuff I've downloaded, 'bout 1 hundred downloaded tracks (still not got into this much, would rather have vinyl), must have way over 1000 vinyl now and hundreds of tapes as well.

Must admit I'm the same!!! I acquired a nice BMW 7-series the other day. If I had the cash I'd have paid for it, and would have loved nothing better than to do that, but as it is I'm a bit broke this month so, well you know how it is....

What's that got to do with anything? Unless ofcourse L-imewire has the habit of ringing people up and offering them MP3s...

I have the internet too, so in that case I guess I am being "offered" stuff for free. I was fortunately subjected to the Grange Hill song "Just Say No" so I am immune to these evil temptations heh
Also it has nothing to do with "moral high ground" its simply a case of knowing that stealing is wrong. And yes it is stealing no matter how you look at it. OK, it isn't a physical product, but it is the equivalent of you going to work for a week and then your boss turning round and saying, sorry I'm skint, I can't afford to pay you.
Yes, when I first got onto the interweb and there was all this brilliant music available for free I did download stuff illegally. Over time I grew up I guess and realised just how rubbish it is - especially in a small scene.
Story time. There was a record store in Manchester called The Spin Inn. Its been going for donkey's years. So many people owe so much to that store, where they bought their first 12" or whatever. For me that store was my lifeline to Hardcore. I found it after searching round various other stores for a copy of Shooting Star (this was when I was first getting back into Hardcore). I was eventually pointed in the direction of this store, as it was the only Hardcore record store in Manchester. I became a regular, I was introduced to so much different music. Got to know the staff reasonably well, and it really was a kind of mecca for me in Manchester. Used to go in regularly, spending hours in there.
That store closed down the other month. Just cleared out, locked up and shut. Was talking with the owner the other day, you know why it closed down? downloads had killed his sales. That is just one store that has closed, there are other stores in Manchester (non-hardcore) suffering exactly the same situation. If it wasn't for that store I would never have got into Hardcore as much as I have, and also alot of other people wouldn't either. When it shut down I did a google to try and find out any news (he literally just vanished.... thought he'd run off to the caymans or something!). The number of sites I came across saying that Spin Inn was where they bought their first record is unbelievable. A piece of history down the drain.
That is why downloading illegally is wrong, and that's why I'm ranting a bit about it because its something that has now directly affected me. Once you are in a position like that where you lose something you love due to illegal downloading maybe you will understand too.

umm... no.. my guess is the fact that internet prices for vinyls and cds are cheaper than in-store, so that also played a HUGE factor in the closing of that shop
infact i would go so far as to say that equally as much as the illegal downloads.
buying stuff online is just far more convienient. i work in john lewis, and we have a website, and this year its sales have been greater than any other store, even though people need to pay for delivery (whereas in-shop you dont).
so in summary, the internet killed your local record shop, both illegally and legally.
