I dont understand?

Why are labels selling tracks for like $1 or less? I mean, i could understand if NOBODY bought vinyl any more, but they do. Does anyone know what kinda money is made from vinyl sales compared to digital? i mean, no matter how baddly vinyl is selling, i cant imagine selling tracks for $1 would bring in a lot of money, and for someone who is using their LIFE to make hardcore how the F%$# would they get by? SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN THIS TO ME!

If you can find any sites with $1 mp3s...tell me.
Think about it this way. Let's just say you're going to buy the mp3s of a vinyl on IMOdownload. Mp3s there are about $3 each, for me. So a normal vinyl would be $6, and all it is is digitalness. Vinyls are about $10 each, and it's something you can hold.

no store that I know of are selling Hardcore for $1, closest would be 99c (£0.99) on NuEnergy, but if you're not US or UK, they will include VAT, so it's more like £1.49 each track anyways

Records or cd's are better than mp3's for me. As you actually get a physical product, something tangable for your money.

when you think about how much money is costs to make vinyls, its a lot. mp3's have virtually no overheads so most of the money made from them is profit

Agreed.

No one is actually making any money off of MP3s at the mo' anyway. For an absolutely amazing track you'd be lucky to get 50 quid from what I've heard :s

Does that mean, theoretically, that instead of any other influences, it could be the digital revolution that kills hardcore? Whos gonna make hardcore if they cant even make enough money from it to LIVE on?

Only the very top DJ's and Producers can make a living from Hardcore, generally it's not a scene where there is a lot of money to be made.

that might be true if vinyl was to stop being produced, but it isnt.

i think the only reason digital sales arnt very high is purely down to the cost of buying cd decks, not everyone can afford to buy them aswell as vinyl decks

i just released sum tracks and i know that altho there good (not only my own opinion but also from others), and still i dunt get 10000's of buys.. talkin to the big guys they rather go for vynil or albums couse thats where the money's at.. but makin vinyl is expensive pay 30 pound each to press it.. + you need to get profit onnit..

digi kills the hardcore scene? hm.. mayb.. but the price on pressin vynil helps aswell..

only the real big guys can make good money out of this.. lets hope we youngsters can be one of them :p

Indeed i do, from various people in the scene. It doesn't matter anyway though since you shouldn't be releasing Hardcore to make money.
I've not released anything myself no. It's generally accepted though that there is no money to be had in the Hardcore scene unless your right at the top, and even then it's not as much as more commercial Genre's.

I think your forgetting the ease which they can be pirated and given away for free within a matter of seconds.

id like to think hardcore wont be killed by digital. Just put out a 40 min hardcore mix for people that i know. they love it! some even call it 'trance' still. lol
People are waiting impatiently already for me to make another mix, and by now some friends of freinds have already borrowed my copy so they can burn their own.

I almost forgot how Digital Vs. Vinyl comes into the equation in this thread. But this is the kind of exposure IM GLAD im giving hardcore. its because of digital i can download at a quicker rate (cost effective) and bring some new jams to an area that desperately needs something different from rap and rock and EMO!

whoever said digital could kill hardcore. i dont see how.
