the word raver doesnt need redefigning, rtards need kicking in the head. in australia its is ILLEGAL to use the word "rave" to promote a drug and olcohol free event.

******** i tell ya! is that not proof governments are out against young ppl or what?!?!?!

'Wouldn't it be nice to get on with me neighbours,
but they made it ver clear they don't get on with ravers'

Ok first of all being a person guilty of writing long posts, I took the effort to read it all and here is what I think. Ravers to Gypies or should I say Travelling Crusties were known as weekend Travellers. We were from the inner city estates and we went to illegal raves cos we couldn't be arsed with living in a broken down van in febuary. We like cups of tea and playstations and many people prefered indooor events in warehouset o being stuck on a welsh mountain with no lift home at 5.30 in th morning. The only up side was it was free even if we might get arrested.

Secondly 95 was not the time. It was the second time around for Happy Hardcore and that started in late 94. I was at Tribal gathering 93, I remember all the Darkness Jungle in the hardcore tent and barring Slipmatt I hid in the Techno tent which was wicked. At that time the music was evolving and it was in that Genre Happiness was growing. I was at Castle Morton with Spiral Tribe, I was in Wales throughout the 90s and attended a lot of free parties. Anyone know the Collective from Newport? anyone go to the free parties near Aberystwyth or Cardigan? I saw the Prodigy in Newport in the early days at Brooklyn Heights. I remember Altern8 when i lived in Stafford ( now they were ravers )

On two points I agree however. I like nearly all types of music. Hardcore just happens to be my first love. I also prefer breakbeat but to dismiss 4/4 techno is dumb, its like me moaning Trance has to strong an influence now. The beauty of the music is it is constantly changing. If you don't like it, its up to you to change it. Nowone else. Create a nostaglic new scene if you want, but I hardly think choice of old skool is limited. Nearly every rave has THAT stage now as well. Its a good history and we should be proud of it but I don't want to grow old with a style of music boxed in by yesterday.

I suggest in conclusion 95 was when you joined the scene as a 14 year old and now you don't like 14 year olds changing it to what they think the genre and future should sound like. Grow up, the scene was always about inclusiveness, freedom and experimentation.

As to the ruffness? Bad Boy image was tongue in cheek. I am glad most moved over to Garage and can pretend to be white boy ganstas there.
Also do not make the mistake of thinking all Travellers were 60s Hippies THEY WERE NOT. Many wanted to claim dole from the society they rejected and hopped on the scene so they could sell us city kids and townies drugs.
I HATED THATCHER as good as the next lefty but most of the Travellers were NOT members of Greenpeace ( they said they were ) most were not CND members ( They just supported the idea ) and many WERE Blagging nasty people. A few were also very nice. I had a wicked time on my 17th birthday at Stonehenge free party I remember the Babylon all over the site we were not allowed to go on BUT that was because some stupid towny raver sprayed one of the stones with paint a couple of years before and the government made it the excuse they needed.

I hate the Wiltshire police, I think the Beanfield was a disgrace. I supported the Miners strike. I fought againest the Crimnal Justice Act.
All of these things do not make me a 'REAL' Raver. They make me and my experiences. They do not make me better and they give niether of us a monopoly on judging the defination of what a raver is.

As a first timer, way back in 89/90, I bought the white gloves, the glowsticks the Pork Pie ( not Baseball cap ) hat, I wore Dungrees and Docs AND still I asked myself when was I going to be a REAL RAVER. It was when I believed I was one. With or without the gear or the drugs ( wait for it...wait for it...they were much better in the old days !! hehehee ) .

At the top I have posted the lyrics of a good old sixties song probably moddish I would say, like me dad. We are not the first gen. to party do dodgy things and think we own the music. If it was good enough for them Why redfine Raver?

At least we don't smash up Brighton.

Finally I think it is interesting you make a huge post but then don't really reply, I suggest perhaps you are stirring it up in the hope of creating nosie attention and scene. At least I reply, listen and react to those on the site.
Sometimes I even admit I am wrong!!!

Please remember opinons are like ar*eholes...every body has one

At least one.

Thanks Kathyrn. Glad you think so. Before the rant I respected you opinion.
You can now do no wrong in my book.

Your tag line about the wedding song, did you use it? I and my wife wanted Happy hardcore at the wedding but our families closed it down. Just think you are jammy if got your way!!

I got my revenge though, on the way out of the church all the guests were treated to Cumbrain bagpipes piece playing them out. Very Celtlic I thought but a few strange looks for the Blue rinse brigade.

Ok i dont feel like reading everything (mainly cuz i have a huge final in 40 minuets... wait then why the hell am i here then? X_X) but I will agree that the term raver is a pretty bleak one. Hell, if I were to be strait up honest, I couldn't even call myself a raver, I have never been to one, despite I have a burning passion to go to one no matter what. I would think that the most simplest term to define a raver that I would agree with is someone who goes to huge raves, listens to some electronic music a DJ spins out, and has a blast. But I mean, does it really matter that you should have to be a certain way and do certain things to "offically" call yourself a raver? wasn't there something on PLUR in there? I dono, well imma go get ready for the final, its a freaking 25 minuet drive to class, so.... *runs really fast*
