Basically im thinking about changing over from fl 7 to cubase coz while ive heard that you know "its not the sequencer but the producer" and what not, ive also heard from SO MANY PEOPLE that the sound quality is heaps better in cubase. Would i find it hard to learn cubase considering as ive known fl for so freaaaaking long? What are the pros and cons of sswitching sequencers?
any helps appreciated thanks guys.

I'm new with FL7 and to be honest its a good bit of kit, sound is o.k it could do with bits n bobs changed switched and placed but it's done me proud, im also thinking about going to Cubase to work with a few people i know so I'd also like to know bits n bobs about the two.
Influx, I'd advise talking to some one that produces on Cubase some one like Phenex he and others that use it could give you the best advice.

Download a trial version of cubase and see how you like it.
Don't think of it as "switching" but "Adding to your skills".
Never hurts to try new things.

I've actually seen a very good producer that will remain nameless:
FL->Reason->cubase
Explioting all their functions and moving to the next one when their reached their limits on functionality and sound requirements. cubase has quite a large learning curve if your not used to the functions and it's operations, but if you have patience cubase is a good bet.

Technically yeah it does come down to the user, but that dosn't change the fact that some programs are better than others, and Cubase is generaly the best for PC based sequencing. However to really notice the difference you have to record and edit audio on it. With Fruity audio recording is pretty arkward, then if you want to edit it you have to do it externally, with Cubase you can do all recording and editing in the one sequencing window, with greate is.
Since making a full move to Cubase there is absolutely no looking back, it's just better than everything else in every way in my opinion. The plugins sound many times better than those in Fruity as well. Everything is just alot less limiting because there are no short-cuts used to make things easier, everything that you do - you do proffesionally, which might make things harder to get used to or longer to get used to but in the long term is very much worth it. If you've already been using Fruity it won't take that long to get used to at all, the principles are the same :)

So already knowing fruity back to front will make learning everything in cubase not as hard or as time-consuming?

Whilst it's got those functions, most software based producers will only need to learn a fraction of them, so keep that in mind.
Whats your system spec like? What equipment are you using, software only? vsts?
FL is easier to use but once you get to grips with cubase you will find it better.

Yeah, it's not hard at all, you just need to get used to using it :)

RAM, CPU Speed...FL is a bit better for memory consumption in my experience.

Cubase has a little more of an "accurate" (which some would consider as being "better") output buss. Making the switch from FL isn't going to instantly make your mixes sound better. I would imagine that if you switched to Cubase, you'd find yourself mixing a little differently than you would in FL from being used to hearing a certain sound a certain way coming out of FL.
And if you're pretty familiar with FL already, you shouldn't have too hard of a time getting into Cubase. Not so much that they're similar (because they're really not), but moreso that you already know what you need to do to get a track going and just need to figure out how Cubase does it.

I found that when i moved to Cubase it made alot more difference than i actually imagined. Because of the way the sequencer works it forces me to be alot more creative than i otherwise would be because you can't get away with being lazy about anything like you can in Fruity :P

hahahaaa - you know, thats so god dam true!
Cubase all the way mate - if your switching from FL, then well... it will be abit dawnting at first - but 2 months down the line, you'll be looking back wondering why you didnt do it sooner!
And then... give it 6 months... and you'll be posting comments like the above ^^^

Everyone says the 'sound quality' is better in cubase. But what exactly does that mean?
Example: If you use a 3rd party VST in Fl studio (without any added fx) and rendered it as a .wav file then did EXACTLY te same in cubase, would the one that came out of cubase sound better in ANY way? Or is the 'cubase has better sound quality' argument just coming from the fact that fl's built in programs are fairly shite?
