Where can i download a FREE "Stereo Enhancement" and/or "3d Audio" VST Plugin [that will work with cubase]
I need Something that will widen the stereo image/sonic space of an instruments sound!
I really need it for my pads/strings!
As since i moved to cubase last November - its an critical FX I've been unable to use!
Basically - If you give your track a mixdown, and get everything sounding great - soon as you add a pad it all of a sudden feels "squashed" - no matter how much EQ you try and do to it, other sounds will always seam to clash with it!
The reason is because pads & trance leads take up a HEK of a lot of room in the sonic space & stereo image! - and to enhase these and make them seem more clear and fresh - one great tip to do is to add stereo enhancement to widen the stereo image [width] of the signal to make it seam more open and in turn have the sound seam to just "JUMP RIGHT OUT" at you!
[however - this can also ofcource problems when playing the final track out out of mono systems (e.g mobile phones ect) i.e. from my experience, its best to only ever use it on pads and stuff, and use it wisely]
However - i can't do this as I'm currently lacking a VST thats any good at doing the job at hand!
So if anyone knows anywhere i can download a freeware one [thats decent] - then please let me know! it would be a great help :)
Cheers :)
I used to use it none stop in FL - but cubases doesn't have a plugin for it :( And all the freeware nes i find are dam awful!)

Stereo enhancement plugins are poo mate. 3 tips that I use:
1) instead of stereo, creat dual-mono and make sure they are panned hard left and hard right. OK, it sounds the same as stereo, but it isn't. It just works, I don't know why!
2) Reverb broadens your stereo image (at least stereo reverb does :-P )
3) Similar to 1, instead of converting stereo to dual mono, convert it down to single mono. duplicate this track and pan these hard left and right. This works better than 1, but you lose any stereo effects you had such as panning. However, some careful use of auto-panners, stereo delays and stereo reverb will sonn correct this - infinitely more control than a stereo enhancer!

Adding to Underloop's points, I'd suggest trying to off-phase the two mono signals slightly. This might create extra "width" and fatness.

Hard panned ping pong delay to a mono track with a short time (under 17 ms if you don't want people to hear the delay) does quite a bit to make a sound more wide. Dblue Glitch is pretty helpful for very controlled delays, as is the most recent of The Interrupter's delay plugins (I think it's called Bionic Delay, but I'm not sure.)
