I'm probabaly gonna sound dumb here, but I don't produce.....yet. What would one of those be used for? When I read soundcard I just assumed it would be like a PCI card for the PC.

It's the same a PCI sound card, just in an external form, so you can connect to any computer anywhere :) And it has more features on it than a PCI card itself would have, which would only have the inputs and output connections on it (in the form of a breakout cable. Some sound cards also come with breakout boxes, and this would be essentially the same as the Edirol thing only it's not connected to a PCI card, it is the entire sound card in a box connected by firewire).

An average non-pro sound card generally only has one audio channel too, but with that you could record 10 different audio signals indipendantly :)

Hopefully that's not confusing!

^^^^ No not at all, I see what it does now. As I only record mixes onto the PC at the moment it would be useless for me. I was just curious, thanks for the info

You can use it with your mixing too if you decided to go digital. I have Traktor hooked up to all 4 of the inputs on my mixer, so I can treat my computer like a bank of glorified CD decks (but with more power)
