Hey,
Been looking at CDJs for a while now. Until now I had my heart set on some Pioneer CDJ200s, however there are a couple of Technics SL-DZ1200 going cheap on our local equivalent of Ebay.
Does anyone have any first hand experience/opinions with these that they would like to share?

as long as you enjoy digital sounding scratching they're great!
they're better than the 200s but not the best cdjs out there

Ive used them and hated them. The vinyl emulation is rubbish. I know lots of people who bought them then sold them on for the denon dns3500's or the pioneer cdjs

im assuming there is a certain spending limit you've given yourself?
With the technics your gaining vinyl manipulation (however crappy it may be) because the Pioneer 200's are not touch-sensitive. The Pio's would FOR SURE be more accurate as far as pitch resolution goes (tempo/beat accuracy).
basically the answer is, if you wanna mix and not scratch, go Pio. If you wanna look like a you're having a bunch of fun starting and stopping your tunes with your fingers, then get something with a touch sensitive platter.

Okay, my last question:
Is the scratching on the CDJ800s (MK1) good enough to make them worthwhile? Or do you really need to go up to the CDJ1000?

I have to agree, I didn't like the technics, go with the 200's.
The video is quite good you can actually see how much better the denon's are at scratching than the pioneers :)

i think the mk1 unit does not offer mp3 playback (if that matters to you or not) and from what i've seen on forums some guys are having a hard time tracking down Mk2's, let alone the mk1. but im sure there's a bunch floating around, used.
The vinyl mode is decent enough and id say it smokes the Technics vinyl mode.

the SL-DZ1200s feel like a turntable, but I prefer the CDJ1000's, Even though they dont have the spinning platter, I like the feel of them more.
Just about every gig I've played has the 1000's, they seem like the standard!
The Denons on the other hand feel weird and I really dont like them.

have you ever seen the Denon's at any club venues? i have a feeling if i play an event hoping my pio 1000's might be there then that'll mean no pio's and a couple Denon's staring right at me. haha
how's the learning curve in relation to the Pio mk3's?

the denon's are just as easy to use, once uve figured out how to use them. first impressions they put you right off cause the layout looks all messy.
only differant thing really is the cue point setting and turning scratch mode off.
press the orange button to turn off scratch mode (bottom, near the right)
to cue, you use the jog wheel to find the start, press play, then press play again, then press cue. there may be another way but thats how i do it and it works every time.
i got a denon and a cdj, so i was used to both of them rather than getting used to one and not the other, it doesnt look as nice having odd cd decks but its a lot better knowing how both work :)

i put that vid up so you could see for yourself how shitty the Techinc's were. granted that both the denon and pio's were the cream-of-the-crop but that's exactly how you can put into perspective, just how sucky the sound processing is on the Technics.
silver is a denon fan boi that's all :p
