Can someone tell me, is a 256MB nVidia GeForce 8600GTS Graphics Card reasonable?
I'm not looking for something top of the range, just something that wont struggle with new games (doesn't have to be on top graphics settings). This one comes free with the new computer I'm looking at. I need a new one now I'm moving out (the cost never ends!!!).

No. In a word.
Try and get a 8800 gts or a x1950.
The x1950 was the top of the previous generation ati cards. Will play everything turned down a little. (My current card )
The 8800gts is probably one of the best value cards about at the moment will play nearly all current games maxed out but is about half the price of the top nvidia cards

OK, crap. Last 3d card I bought was a Vodoo 3000, that's how out of touch I am heh.
What would be a reasonable card to upgrade to bearing in mind I am trying to keep costs down? *edit* well you've answered that now! Cheers.
Do you know any decent sites where you can buy (reliable) custom PC's from? The one I'm using doesn't let you upgrade it :(

Yeah, I really can't be arsed with building it myself tbh. I don't mind chucking the odd card in here and there but it's been years since I've built from scratch! Don't think I can remember it all.
*edit*
What's a PCI physics accelerator as well?

The physx accelerator is supposed to enhance the gaming experience. Its not necessary at all.
http://www.ageia.com/physx/index.html The site has some more info and list the games that use it. As for site's, i'm not that sure to be honest. I've built or had built ever pc I had in the last 6 or so years. You might want to try looking on. overclockers. misco pcnextday dabs They all sell desktops

I had an 8600 gt and it crapped out on me
I'd recommend a radeon x800 xt...it's an overkill but damn is it smooth

Physics cards are pure overkill and not worth the money.
I have 2 8800GTS 640Mb cards in SLI as im a big gamer as well as hardcore fanatic, and I benchtested them 3DMark, and they totally out performed the 8800 Ultra , and they cost less for 2 cards than 1 ultra. Just get an SLI motherboard. ATI in my opinion have a lot of issues with the drivers. Seen more problems with them than Nvidia, (Im talking about games here mind)
If you want a good custom built PC, www.pcspecialist.co.uk I had mine built with them, and its a beast of a PC and its fine :D

Yeah, needs to play recent games :P
I had a gander at PCSpecialist but Dell seem cheaper :s. I was really looking for somewhere cheaper (if such a place exists!).
Despite what people say I have used Dell twice and find them reasonable, never had any problems (bar waiting a month for the computer but that's not the end of the world). Stear clear of their printers (have to buy ink direct at a rip-off price) and you're fine.
Gonna look through Clarke's suggestions when I get a sec, see what I can come up with :)
