You do realise that e.g. s/pdif falls into the HD category? Its what i'm saying, you're thinking you're moving on with the times, but infact while you take 1 step forward, you're taking 2 backwards.
Source: http://www.cs.auckland.ac.nz/~pgut001/pubs/vista_cost.html "In order to appropriately protect content, Vista will probably have to disable any special device features that it can't directly control. For example many sound cards built on C-Media chipsets (which in practice is the vast majority of them) support Steinberg's ASIO (Audio Stream I/O), a digital audio interface that completely bypasses the Windows audio mixer and other audio-related driver software to provide more flexibility and much lower latency than the Windows ones. ASIO support is standard for newer C-Media hardware like the CMI 8788. Since ASIO bypasses Windows' audio handling, it would probably have to be disabled, which is problematic because audiophiles and professional musicians require ASIO support specifically because of its much higher quality than the standard Windows channels." All i'm saying is that do a little research and know what your getting. E.g. try to find a producer that uses Vista and ask if its better then XP. http://memex.naughtons.org/archives/2007/02/03/3667

Oh crap, so I can't use my sound card then? Hmmm. That would make the whole operating system completely useless to me :(
Surely they must have fixed something like this by now!?!?

Donno, dont use Vista :P But i'm sure theres some producers that have Vista, so dont think it would take much research to find out how your software will run on it.

Heh, fair enough. It's not the software I'm worried about. it's the fact that you may have to run audio through the windows mixer (if what you have posted above is still true) which would not be an acceptable quality!

If you really want vista you could always install both XP for things that dont work on vista, and Vista for everything else

Heh I don't really want it though. It's just nice to be up to date with things... Seems a waste to buy XP when there is a new version available.
