i don't know how this works in the rest of the world, but in toronto i've noticed (more recently than in past years) the hardcore scene (not sure about other "rave scenes") attracting a large less-than-heterosexual crowd of people.
is this the same in other areas in the world?
i've had this discussion with friends before, and it seems to be an unanswerable question. is the scene appealing for people with alternative sexual tastes, OR is it that there are more people way than we think, they just don't say it/act on it, but when they do certain inhibition-reducing substances they act on such feelings.
re-reading that, it sounds confusing... but can anyone care to shed some light on the subject?

Thankfully the house and garage scenes attract them more than the hardcore.

Well have you heard the music? There's a reason people refer to it as gaycore

save me is an awful track.
i know the music sounds pretty cheesey, but still... i can't say it sounds any gayer than anything else out there at the moment.
i dunno. it's always puzzled me why homos flock to the scene. maybe it's all the hedonism. who knows.

The rave scene seems to have always have had a pretty strong gay community. Probably has something to do with the fact that house began with a mostly gay scene. Also could just be that raving is an open environment where people won't be asses to you because of what gender you're into.

this is an entirely outside perspective, because pretty much every event over here is 18+, and there's nothing near me i can ever go to
but
it seems the scene in north america is a lot more of an alternative lifestyle crowd than in the uk. i've seen some pretty wacked out people in photos of uk events, but it seems there's a lot more free love hippie type stuff in the north american scene. so it's understandable there's a lot more gay type stuff goin on.
personally it's a bit of a turn off to the scene, as it's very rare that i get along well with the alternative neo-hippie crowd, but meh, i guess it can't be helped!

i dont fink it matters what sexuality the ravers are, so long as the place is packed with passionate hardcore fans. anyway, isnt sharkey gay? and he is a great d.j, i wud never not buy a sharkey trak becoz of his sexuality, i cudnt care less. the main thing is that he is talented and he loves hardcore, just like all the raves wether straight gay or bi

gays like to have to fun..imo, i'd rather hang out with em than a straight dude.
and raving's mad fun, so there ya go.
i don't even know why it's even a concern to you anyways; the rave culture is one that doesn't discriminate and accepts all.

i don't think anyone is being homophobic here, or prejudice at all. no one is saying anything about gay people.
i'll be the first one to admit that i've kissed someone of the same sex before, and i don't think that makes me any less straight. no one cares about this shit anymore.
i was just wondering what other people thought about what the appeal is about the scene to people of that lifestyle. but yeah, it is a non judgmental environment, so i can see that as being be the case.
and who ever said the thing about north america being full of free love hippie types, i'd say that's also true...

refer to the part where i said, "and i don't think that makes me any less straight"
i tried something i thought i'd like and it wasn't for me. if you've eaten vegetables before, does that make you a vegetarian? no.
and the idea of sticking it in the same place you shit from is not appealing in the least.
