:P Will be getting 2mb on my new comp' and upgrading that to 4 8). Ultra power FTW.
Quicksilver - Re: the compressor on the main channel. I get the impression that you're not familiar enough with compression to be doing this, you will only make the track worse unless you know 100% what you're doing with it! My advice would be to not do it at all (leave it for a mastering engineer if you want your productions to be as good as they can be) until you are completely comfortable with using compression.
FYI you could have a million gig of RAM , but if ya CPU and FSB arent good enough you'll bottleneck.
** Damn sorry double post

Dude i think you should check you havent accidently doubled up on snares. Sometimes when i click the actual notes in, it does it twice. Click on a note to move it around where the excessive volume is coming from and see if there is another ntoe underneath it. Im almost 100% confident thats what it is.

Not at all. We're saying don't use it till you have :). Influx has a valid point in that compression on the main channel is just best left for a mastering engineer with ultra expensive equipment. Forgot to listen to the sample last night :(
LeVzi - Ah OK that makes sense.
Don't worry, everything else on the comp will be up to speed :)

If ya kick is gettin overpowered by the snare, beef up the kick. Problem solved. Or turn your snare into one of them ones that clockwork monkeys used to play. They were pretty weak.
im typin this n ive forgotten the name, but whoever was on about RAM, if ya mobo has 1033mhz FSB it will work sweet, but be aware of the limitations of 32bit Operating Systems and over 4 gig of ram ok, you will never get the full use of the RAM.
64 bit OS is the only way to increase RAM usuage up to or past 4 gig.
You can force PAE but it still wont really help.
**edit** was Bulby im talking, ffs the joys of old age.

Oh, is that so. I've been told to avoid installing a 64bit OS as they're incompatible with a lot of things due to a lack of 64bit drivers... So why can I not increase the ram to 4gb because I have a 32mb OS exactly?
The motherboard will be fine BTW.

Well with a 32bit OS, it uses a MAX of 4 gig, so basically, take into account virtual memory and your graphics care memory (if you have one) and subtract from your 4 gig of RAM and thats what windows will show you have, so dont be shocked when you install all 4 gig if windows only shows up to 3 of it.
64bit Vista is going to be the most supports OS of all, eventually all 32 bit OS's will be phased out and it will all be 64bit as all new processors and chipsets will be 64bit ready.
But dont be fooled there, Vista basic and Vista Home Premium 64 bit will only go up to 8gig its Vista Ultimate that will go up to 128gig (Its all over kill anyways but im just showing you that if you are going to upgrade, get the ultimate as its really the only one that matters to MS)

uuhh... id probably say that if something was peaking at -24 dB you should probably turn it up as opposed to turning down the whole track to -24dB

Thanks, Influx. Gonna see if there's a double note there (but how? I haven't used the piano roll for the snares and kicks).

Then there can't be a double note in that case. I still think your problem is caused by compression on the main channel. Adding a new sound into the track can then alter other sounds properties if you have compression on the main channel.

^^ speaks the truth.
If you ahvent used the piano roll (which imo you really SHOULD be doing) then nah there cant be a double note. That pretty much just leaves channel volume change and compression on the master channel then im out of ideas...
