that's the way I like 'em. have more fond memories of smaller gigs than massive venues where everyone you go with gets lost =P

Yeah it's kind of inevitable that if i go to a big rave that the group of people I'm with will at some point (well at a lot of points actually :P) will be seperated!

Yeah. Best parties for me are little free raves that me and/or my mates throw round here and it's generally the same 100-200 people turning up and we all know each other. It's the best kind of party.

It's quite usual for an illegal rave to not start till 12-1-2-3 even 4 o clock in some cases, then they don't end till Sunday night (Hard2Get - "Perfect timing then :P 10 onwards is an idea time!" - knows the score ;)). I wish we had a similar wilderness in this country, it's the perfect location for a free rave.

Most free party promoters would always chose an outdoor location over an indoor one (weather permitting of course). Everyone has more freedom to wander about, it always makes a more interesting setting, you will cause less noise disturbance (providing you're a good distance from any residential areas) and you don't get in trouble for breaking in and trespassing on private property.
alex_e - "also, you didn't put anything for proper rave, bulby. were you going to add anything?"
Nah, I was saying an illegal/free rave is a proper rave :).
A legit promoter would only do it for a few reasons really:-
A. They don't have a proper venue sorted.
B. They have a venue sorted but it's shit and everyone knows it.
C. They are worried that the venue they have secured isn't so secured.
D. They are trying to capture the feel of a proper rave (but they failed as they're charging on the door).
E. They're complete planks.
true i havnt got to know about them. i didnt know there was enough people out there to merit a party. By "the bush" (where your friend lived), where exactly (a bit more exact than 'the bush') do you mean.

I'll ask him when I next see him and let you know :)
Here is something a quick search on the interweb gave me:-
Welcome to Wonderland is a feature documentary film about music and dance. Released on DVD in June 2006 after more than five years in the making, this film explores Australia's vibrant outdoor bush rave party scene through the thoughts of participants.
The trance scene in Melbourne, Australia, is considered one of the best in the world, and sees the convergence of travellers from all parts of the globe, especially Japan and Israel. With party organisations like Rainbow Serpent and Earthcore there are as many as 10,000 people who come together to celebrate and dance. Welcome to Wonderland is an incredibly beautiful and insight film/documentary that captures the unique experience and stories within the outdoor trance/dance scene. It is a wonderful celebration of music and dance that demystifies the dance floor experience and takes you to the place where only music can.
Link for the films website - http://www.welcometowonderland.com Don't know if this is about legal or illegal parties mind... Certainly looks like free raves in places on the trailer.
