i've asked about this before, but i don't think i got an answer.

happy hardcore "borrows" a lot from older euro tracks. pick your top 5 favs and i can almost guarantee you that one of them was originally euro. the funniest part is you wouldn't even know it

eye opener
crazy love
hardcore style
back and forth...

i know there are sooo many more that escape me at the moment
add some if you know some tho, i'm always interested in the originals.

anyway - i'll use this as an example - back & forth being more or less a remix of an earlier euro tune (alexia - me and you (if anyone is interested)), why is there absolutely no mention of the original artist? don't say for copyright, because i'm pretty sure most euro producers got out of the game a while ago/just wouldn't care anymore. for a very long time, i was under the impression that brisk & brown were the exclusive artists of this song, and to me... that is something along the lines of plagiarizing.

i dunno. everytime i hear people bitching about DJ rankin "stealing songs" or calling them his own, (i'm not defending this guy at all; i think he plain sucks) i have to think to myself "isn't that the same thing going on all over the place?" in principle it's pretty much the same thing. and if it isn't, please clarify.

regardless, POST A HHC TRACK THAT "COVERED" AN OLD EURO TUNE.

sampling acapellas and vocals is common throughout the dance industry, not just hardcore
....sometimes the samples are cleared, sometimes they're not - we have no way of knowing

I don't think it's a problem...cross-genre stuff is what makes it fun

i love it, don't get me wrong.

i dunno. i guess i'm complaining cuz someone is getting creditted for SOME work they didn't do at all.

to me, i just think the original should be on the label too. or something.

Yeah, but then they'd have to pay for it, and it would be a fully licensed remix. Scott Brown samples SOOO MUCH US rap, but he never credits them. It doesn't bother me honestly.

well, what do you mean by "work they didn't do at all"?
...they did everything except record the original vocals!

there's more to tuneage than vocals, that's why hardcore lovers care more about the producer than the vocalist

back & forth would be nothing without that riff, breakdown, gabber middle part, cheeky DJ intro, etc.

eye opener is alllll about the crazy riff and the redman samples over the breakbeat part...the vocals don't really do much for me

you can barely hear what he sings in the Eyeopener tune anyways :P

Well most of Scott Brown's pre-2004 (cause I barely know anything bout his later tracks) where sampling something, even if was just maybe and word (ie Elysium) or the complete track (First Parable -> Panda/Manga - It's a Dream).

Not to ruin the fun (cause I also like knowing the original tracks for hardcore songs), but there's a rule when it comes to IDing original tracks

i don't think anyone likes eyeopener for the lyrics...

it's the riff and the rap sample that make it a classic

Both of them were originally dance tracks as far as im aware correct me if im wrong though.
And soul of an angel was a dance track then a hardcore track then a dance track again i think.

yea i think i worded that poorly...

let me rephrase - the lyrics are a good sized part of the song but it's not like the entire song's concept is taken from the original euro song...

...if that makes sense...

I think the vocals have just as much importance to a track as everything else. I listen to "Eyeopener" for the vocals, as well as the riff. I could care less about the rap part. I think its more on how the vocal sounds that attracts people. I personally dont like a clean, plain vocal sample. I like there to be something done to it, vocoder, voice box, pitched, etc. But not every song can just be instrumental, there needs some vocal (preferably female) vocal sometimes.

yea i'm having a really hard time getting my point across haha,

what im trying to say is that the vocal just adds to the track, it's not like brisk & trixxy took this euro song and converted it to hardcore. it's a good vocal and a part of the song, but as far as it taking away from the creativity or originality of the song, i don't see it as doing that.

again... hopefully this makes sense... i'm a bit daft tonight (college essays will do that to you)

It makes total sense, and you always did, and the point you made is just common sense anyway.

As for not knowing, well even if it was true, it's not that we don't know, we just don't care :P

Instrumental Eyeopener would be crap. The Hardcore tracks take pretty much the whole idea from the original artist. Sampling some raps is a diffrent thing, e.g. Punchdrunk have no resemblence to the track its sampling. But using whole vocals is a diffrent thing. Anyway, nowadays when hardcore got more popular they started crediting the original artist, which is good IMO. You didnt write the song, so why the hell say you did?
