For info on aliases try here http://www.discogs.com/ it will tell you loads, search for Scott Brown for example.

I think sometimes artists use different names so they can try different styles of music, sometimes for different labels, sometimes so to see if they can sell a track based on the track alone and not the name...loads of diffferent reasons.

^^^ As Mortis said Discogs can be useful for finding differnt names! Scott Brown was known as 'The Scotchman' on thge Dutch Dwaf records (good lebel sadly gone bust

Bonkers 7 does have a few 'differnt' names for Sy & Unkown in thier mix, Hixxy also has a few hidden names such as O.M.G. while other people only stick with one name...

The artist name was mostly irrelevant.

thank you, been preaching that for years.

you should buy a tune based on the fact that you like the song, not because of who it's done by.

sidenote: a good chunk of my friends who spin don't really know who produces the records and just have the sides marked for which one they prefer. they can tell you every keyboard, drum machine, etc. used to make each sample in a tune though =P

It's likely to be because the artist wants to prove to themselves that their music is still good (because some artists make money simply for being who they are). So they released under a name no one knows. If they sell, it proves the artist is still good. If it doesn't, then they know to change their style a little. Stephen King did it. He named his books to Richard Bachman.
