I'd probably try this site:

www.carrentals.com

what kind of things are you interested in? do you already have sites that you were planning on visiting? I'd probably recommend for cities if your staying up north nyc, philly & chicago

its ****ING easy to get a job in Sydney

www.seek.com.au

I mean ****ing easy.

If you want a driving job i spose you could be a pizza delivery boy? lol

EDIT

Uhhh.... Just so you know, incase one of these reasons is why you're coming to Australia, let me dispel a few myths:

NO, we DONT ride Kangaroos
OR Emus
Kangaroos, wombats, emus and koalas dont roam around our streets - ive only ever seen kandaroos in the country and/or in a zoo
****ing NOBODY says G'day
We do NOT all dress like aussie cowboys

But on the bright side:

YES we DO Enjoy beer
YES, we DO watch a lot of footy
YES, we DO enjoy sport in general
YES, we DO enjoy BBQ's
YES, we DO say mate a lot
YES, most of the time it IS sunny and hot
YES, we having ****ing good beaches
YES, we are INCREDIBLY laid back and generally dont give a shit

And yes, we are just as friendly as everyone says we are

and for reference over here;

Flip Flops are Thongs - which has NOTHING to do with underwear
a barbie is a BBQ
Shrimp are Prawns

Oh, and yeah, we do have some of the biggest raves in the world

that car rentals site is spot on. Nice one!

Im lookin at renting a motorhome now. Its not that much more than a car n its sumwhere to stay aswel!!

Im not too sure of my route yet. I wanna go to sum proper primitive parts of america cos theres nowhere in england where u more than a couple of miles from anuva person n i wanna know wot i feels like to be in the middle of nowhere. I also wanna see the rocky moutains, n the desert, n im not sure wot cities. Which r the best?

As for Aus. safe for that. cant wait now!!!

bent banana like influx says, its really not that hard to get a job in aus.... you could also do the job agency thing like many of us aussies do in the UK :)

also... i would recommend if you want to go to the middle of nowhere and see something different... when youre in aus, go to coober pedy, an opal mining town in south australia... its very different but very interesting.they have cool places to stay underground... its quite touristy too... theres a spot you can go stargazing at (forget what its called) but its run by tourguides. but dont stay too long... theres not that much to do out there :P

also go to uluru (ive been to a fair few places in oz yet but havnt seen uluru yet, but alot of ppl who go say its amazing)...

most of the deserts are in the southwest...route I'd recommend would be take route 66 if you go to chicago, it ends in los angeles

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Route_66

you'd have to head north of it to see the rocky mountains though

About the motor home check up on the mpg you get with that thing. The way gas prices are now you might end up spending a fortune on fuel alone.
