Whats your preference?
I've been into hardcore for 18 years, but to me hardcore is the music itself and not having some bird singing on a track all the time! (or bloke) Don't mind it now and again and don't get me wrong, there are some really good tunes with singers on, but I'll always be from the old skool, tune, not vocals!

Pretty similar to yourself paul mate. If playing a set would never play more than a couple vocal tracks, mainly without.
Do like a lot of older vocal + piano stuff but you cant beat constant pounding hardcore.

Both. There are some vocal tracks that are brilliant, and some that stink. There are instrumental tracks that are briliiant, and some that stink.

non-vocal. the occassional one is alright but the whole sing-a-long sets of the late 90s killed it for me.
prefer music with samples in it so you can be watching a movie and get the "holy crap I know where that sample is from now!" rush =P

Same for me. Although there are loads of top choons with vocals. I personally don't like male vocals at all. There are far too many lately & it just don't sound right. If ya gonna have vocals it's gotta be female.

Same here! Except for the old Force & Sryles tracks. Their male vocal tracks seemed to work. But not today's tracks.

I do like my vocal tracks but I like alot of different styles of hardcore - chack out my latest mix for eg.
Both vocal and non vocal have their time and place and I agree with charlieee.

When i first heard happy, nearly all of the mixes i heard had some vocals or vocal samples in then. It was only recently when i downloaded an oldskool happy Carl Cox set that was without any vocals at all. Took me a few listen' to get used to it, but, i kind of like it and would like to hear it more at parties. But, variety is the spice of life and i think there can be room for both. I agree on the male vocals, not a good idea.

It depends on which kinda vocas your talking about! If it's girls singing the original style of oooo's & aaaa's then I don't have a problem with a bit of that & mabey a few short sntences but when the singer rambls on about nothing important but thinks they've got great lyrics, thats when I get a bit pissed off with it! There's so many great tracks out there that are ruined by someone rambling on & killing the feelng of the track itself!

Prefer non-vocal myself, but some vocal such as tracks by Angel Eyez, DMO & Chwhynny are my faves. Otherwise its non-vocal all the way.

Vocal stuff i like
Force & Styles
Triple J
triple j had some really good vocal releases like 'follow the sun' and 'have it all'. which i really like.
But i'm not to big on vocal stuff which is being released currently, most of it sounds like it's been pushed for the commercial market I.E. The kiddies.
