http://remixmag.com/performance/dj_tips_techniques/remix_microwave_djs/ i didn't realize there was actually a term for this, but it explains someone... er, a few people i know really well. it's cheating and it's dirty, and i don't like that rich kids can fast track it to being a DJ. you should have to have qualifications to buy serato but unfortunately, any retard with 500$ can buy one. anyway, it's worth a read.

id love to see the look on a Mp3-DJ's face when you ask him to "beatmatch these two tracks for me" the deer-in-the-headlights look you'll get would be priceless.

I agree with most of this article. Although I don't know, with the exception of Rankin as an internet cult phenomenon, of any of these so-called Microwave DJs getting any respect in the field of DJ'ing.
You still have to be talented to consistently get gigs, no matter what the medium.

why should anyone have to have qualifications to buy serato? if they want to make an a$$ out of themselves by not actually practicing and puting forth the effort it's their priority.
most people listening can tell when the dj sucks and the reaction is seen on the dance floor, ie when you hear shoes in a drier people don't care to dance. it still takes talent to work a crowd...although one of the most amusing djs I ever saw sucked at djing but then would take records and break them over his head...

That comment just shows you have no idea what your talking about, serato does NOT beat match for you and the programmers have always stated there will never be that option in the software!
Before making satements like that its better to make sure what your saying is correct:)
http://www.scratchlive.net/djs/?dj=beat+junkies Look down that list Jazzy Jeff, Dave Clarke, Dj AM, A-Trak, Felix Da Housecat, Junior Sanchez the list goes on and on thy IMO are all at the top of there game..... FYI i have been a memeber of the scratchlive forums for a long time now, there is many talented people on there some of the mixes i have heard have been fantastic especially Sixxx, Steve Dub and Micheal Basic http://www.stickam.com/profile/serato On there you can watch members of the forum spin and chat with others at the same time, word of warning tho say they cant beat match or they are using the llaptop to "cheat" then either you will be banned or have a new ******* ripped for you

The main reason i see people bitch about this is in America at the club that are playing hiphop/top 40 rather than have good djs they have people with serato that have either been on l1mewire or some other p2p and downloaded are the funky mixes, leathal weapon, and any other remix services edits and mixing them along with mash ups from the likes of crooklyn clan.com or crack4djs.
All the remix services make it so the track has extended intro and outros make mixing them a peiece of piss with very little if any skill required, throw in some pre made mashes and thats a dj set with very little skill required.

Im a Virtual DJ man myself, and the software does beatmatch the songs for you, has effects, samples, etc.
i agree that it could be considered cheating... but then again, it is a "cheaper" option than getting everything else as well. a fair amount of people that love dance music are too poor to fork out the money for some real gear... and i believe that, if possible, most of them would. im one of those cases. DJing is a lot of fun and rewarding, and i dont think that it should just be for those who have enough money to buy all the sparkly stuff.
dont forget that the two can be used together! e.g. time coded vinyls plugged up to your computer or your laptop. best of both worlds.
also, the fact that people assume that "microwave DJs" dont practice is pretty stupid. sure, some people may not practice, but those who appreciate the art and are passionate about it will still practice and do their best to become the best DJ they can be.
pretty interesting subject though

1. DJing without any skill and using software as a crutch is a bad idea and shouldn't be encouraged by giving terrible DJs bookings.
2. Acting like DJing software is the coming of the antichrist and the ruin of all DJing everywhere is equally stupid. It's a tool, just like any other. Software makes some of the technical aspects of DJing very easy (in all honesty, I'm really bad at beatmatching when I'm just using sound. But even without the auto-beatmatching, the waveform display makes it really easy for me), but it can't replace the things that make a DJ good, like timing and track selection.
3. Rich kids? If anything, it's a poor kids option. $500 for serato is a lot cheaper than paying for a pair of decks, a mixer, and the way higher price of vinyl.
4. So what's wrong with any idiot being able to DJ? It seems to have worked well for producing, if thriving forums about hardcore still exist ("Made in 2 Minutes" anybody?)

I never said "serato". To tell you the truth i could give a rat's ass about all that computer software at this point. Im into my cdj's
But when i go to a club and see a dj with a laptop mix 2 songs about 30 seconds after eachother and barely doing any type of headphone cueing i'd say THAT guy probably couldnt beatmatch to save his life.
and perfect timing. someone above me said that he's a VIRTUAL DJ and his tracks can automatically be beatmatched. NO disrespect to him but that's what i was saying about the beatmatching/tempo matching technique's
Plus, i know a guy with a software program( again, i never cared to learn the name of the program) who mixed songs but then i put him on my CDj's to pitch and beat match. stood there totally stunned.
That's what i was talkin about.

Point Proven. Nobody mentioned Serato but then you came into the thread "AHHHHHHHHHHHH Serato AHHHHHH"
lol get a grip dude.
Skedd, it's not cheating. I've usually heard elitist calling it cheating. To the common folk that have no clue "what does what in a dj booth" they could care less what 'tools' are being used.
