I'd like to ask why is techno so associated with x and drugs. Why can't they just not do drugs and just dance to the good techno music? Everyone I know who showed me Happy hard core music has never done drugs and they ask this same question.

The reason I ask this is because people who I show happy hardcore tell me that its for druggies even though the people that showed me Happy Hardcore are complete intellectual preps. :D.

Thanks. I guess its there choice. I don't care. I just hate how people think that I do drugs for listening to the music, even though I've never been to a rave, just like the music.

Iv never actually been to a rave and done drugs the paranoia of being so far from home is too much for me to risk it...But when im at home or out close to home with friends i trust i dont mind doing drugs.....I dont find drugs essential but they can enhance your experience if used correctly but if you enjoy the music as much as i do then you probably wont need any :)

our scenes are totally different in the states and uk.
as mj said, it's choice. i've done xtc at an event, i'm safe with anything i do. I'm not going to be someone who overdoes it.
but i'm not a constant user of it, only once in awhile.

I never want drugs to take over the music number 1 in my life. I've seen it before where people screw themselves up so badly that I wonder, "did they even come for the music"?
I doubt this matters but I think more people do drugs on psytrance lol.

it's associated due to the media. they figured out it's easier to scare parents into telling their children not to go to these 'raves' due to the amount of drugs and illicit activities that occur.
it's much easier to frighten people than to educate them.
I always found it funny that when companies like dance safe try to write the media and educate people the media always shrugs them off and continues on with it's crusade against rave culture...even though they seem to be fine with the idea of drugs being at rock concerts for the past 5 decades =P

Thanks mainly to 'The Sun' newspapers alot of raves in the early 90's were getting busted out by the pigs, There is a video floating about on youtube with a news coverage.
I'm based in Norfolk in the United kingdom and frankly on our local broadcast news we usually get reports on illegal raves which take place, a rave happened on sunday in a village near me which didn't get reported which was good news to hear.
But another reason is idiots posting stuff on internet sites saying illegal party is going on... thats not how it's done... people who hate raves will then report it then the pigs get onto it
thats why i never really bother going to an illegal rave as stupid internet people ruin it for everyone.

Are there legal raves? If so, how do you get them to become legal?

Music is music.
Drugs is drugs.
But... I get a natural high of music. So maybe you can call music a drug aswell. :P

Well, I am a candy raver, been raving since 2005...never rolled once. I have also never drunk anything with alcohol/liquor in it. I love dance music for the energy it gives off, especially Happy Hardcore. It too, makes me mad when people who don't even know me, consider me a drug addict. (Yes, I do know the stereotype towards candy ravers). But ya, dance music, whether its commercial or underground, is always going to be considered "druggie" music. See, Rock, Rap, Hip Hop, R&B, Metal, etc. all that music is the "Popular" music, it's the American Music sorda say. Dance music is the music that gets poked at, made fun of, and stereotyped, and its gone so far that people have actually let it become believed that it is all the things it isn't! But look at it this way, do you really want the people who obess themselves with the "popular" music in our scene???? Look at their attitudes and pathetic language usage, do you really want more of that stuff into the rave culture than it is now? What really gets me mad is these 16-19 year olds who only show up at a rave for the drugs and scream, "Don't judge me!" Ya...your not a raver. You only come to raves to get your fix, not for the culture, not for the music, not for the atmosphere, just the drugs, and that does not make you a raver.

mainly because people at raves are so pumped full of shit that people started to think that people at raves take drugs. but seriously. its for the strobes and lazers

good question.
as someone stated look at the rock/metal scene - jimmy hendrix and guns and roses. look at amy winehouse and pete docerty (sp) all famous rock stars for being wasted on drugs.
the thing the media seem not to report is that people at raves take mdma in all its forms, speed and ket most rock bands/artists are smack or crack heads, yet thats ok, but the rave scene gets dragged througg the dirt!
