There has been an annual celebration for european day in our local village, but this year they had to cancel it as there was 3 complaints made by one person apparently who didn't celebrate european day because he/she isn't.
Shame, as they always hold a miss. european award.

Wow, everyone on Page 1 is bashing Europe for some reason (correct me if I'm wrong). That makes me sad. Europe day should be about being united! I dislike the British view of Europe sometimes...

For all you know Jay I might not have read the thread correctly and jumped to a conclusion.
As it happens I did read it properly and decided to post picture of a 1980's rock band - hardly taking the piss out of Europe

and I'd be happy with an initiative like europe day if agreed more with the politics in modern day europe.
The european union used to be a good initiative but lately I've been let down by the EU's policies and all of it members (including my own little Belgium).

I expressed myself incorrectly. I didn't mean to say that your Europe joke wasn't funny, just that it was taking the piss (which in some situations is funny).
I still don't want to jump into any kind of argument with either you or anyone. As it happens you and several people in this thread would be on my 'respect list', and I know that any kind of argument or anything of the sort would result in my own humiliation after being destroyed verbally by half the site. I have had the experience before xD
So in conclusion, after this long and pointless paragraph, I'll just end it with a 'Happy Europe Day'.

To be truthfull, I don't agree with European politics or British politics.. Or Belgian politics, while we're at it... There isn't a party that fits me in Wallonia. PS being too lefty??? wehehe, oh come on, the days those guys were actual socialists have come and gone a long time go, now they're just a corrupt bunch of powerhungry failures.
But I understand your frustration. We don't really have a decent leftwing party, nor a decent central left party (SP.A has tried but has failed in both). Rightwing is always riding the ass of others and in the case of BHV nobody want's to back down. Even if the courts have already decided what should be done (and I agree that it should be divided).
I do not however agree with calling Yves Leterme a half fascist or a walloon-hater. Some of the dirty jobs just have to be done and he's the dumbass that chose he job to do it.
He tries to do right but with our current political situation he's bound to fail... again :p

Whoa, getting serious, aren't we. Let's just say this board is not the most serious place on teh interwebz and I hope it stays that way. ;)
As for Europe (or the Union to be precise) - best thing that could ever happen to us, period. And I don't mean poor countries like Poland, which have obviously had the biggest gains - I mean the whole of Europe. If you look at the big picture, the whole integration thing is just phenomenal and if you look at an even bigger picture, it's the only way to survive as a culture.
'Nuff said. Go Europe!
