'Crews combed farm fields Sunday looking for bodies and survivors of severe storms and tornadoes that struck southwest Missouri on Saturday, killing at least 14 people.

Susie Stonner, spokeswoman for the State Emergency Management Agency, said one person was killed in Jasper County, one was killed in Barry County, and 12 were reported killed in Newton County near the border with Oklahoma, where seven people died.'

Jesus, I get on MSN today to find my friend Jess' pseudonym to be 'I lost my home yesterday'... I ask him about it and he says it was destroyed in a tornado. I do some reasearch, and I discover this peace of information about tornados that hit Missouri, Oklahoma and Georgia... It says there that 14 were killed, but numbers have risen since, latest report states 22 deaths...

As if this deserves its own thread when thousands have just died in an Earthquake in China and thousands more are dying in Burma after a cyclone...

I didn't know I'd get attacked for talking about it. It has a thread 'cause it affects a friend of mine...

Hmmmm not saying you can't make a thread about it but yeh. I don't think people will care for those things on a happyhardcore forum. LOL

Peace.

General Discussion is for General Discussion? Not sure what you mean Complexion/Euphory.

Anyway, all deaths are sad. Comparing quantities may make for sensationalism, but death is death.

Thats why we should never discuss about anything else then hunger. Because discussing anything that doesnt have a +1 000 000 death toll is pointless, right? Get a grip of reality dude, everyone has heard whats happening in Asia, that doesnt mean BBC stops reporting news from other parts of the world FFS. That doesnt mean it doesnt effect you if your friends home was destroyd.

bloody hell. im fairly sure i said i wasnt attacking him...
what i am trying to get at is my annoyance that its the location is important to the media. if 22 people died in a tornado in middle of africa i doubt anyone in first world would hear about it. What makes their life less important than americans?
America probably has 22 odd people die in car crashes each day. is their death unimportant? I doubt those 22 car crashes made headlines.

Particularly in the burma case. That country has been struggling for years under a military dictatorship. I had some friends go there last year and they said it was the most eye opening experience they have ever had. I certainly saw these the news headline these issues for the last few years.

But who really cares hey? that doesnt affect us, its some other part of the world, where the poor people live.

I'm not trying to downplay a few people dying, and respect to renengade, if my mate was affected id want people to have a care as well. But jenks has point - not that it doesnt deserve a thread, but that other people are humans too.

Thats probably one of the most narrow-minded things ive read. I dont have bbc news but if it is anything like most news, they only START reporting things from OTHER parts of the world when there is, lets say, a +1 000 000 death toll, because otherwise it pointless, right?

These are 2 headlines from my bbc newsfeed in firefox at the moment - slightly short of the 1m mark and in other countries other than the UK - in fact I believe you mentioned Africa not getting a mention did you not?

Why even post such about such things to begin with. If i want to read news I'll buy a newspaper. I'm not referring to your post specifically either Jay, just all those people who feel the need to post news on here as if anyone gives a shit (about discussing such news, not the event itself), and as if it isn't all over TV already. And for those who are thinking 'If you don't like it, don't read it', I never normally do, which is why this is the first time I've commented.

What I don't get is why a lot of houses in the USA in areas that are nown for having storms and tornado's are still made of wood... I mean, don't ppl realise that a good foundation and a shitload of bricks is going to hold up a lot better????
