I think it was back in 1996/1997 it was called freeform (and trancecore?) all the sharky mixes except 1&2.
I was listening to sharkey's from B3. and it's outstanding in 2 ways, it's actually really freakin good and 2 it's good for it's time - so why 10 years later all the new freeform is ****ing weak?!?

Well thats your opinion man. I personally think a lot of the freeform made now a days is absolutely wicked.
Lost Soul, Twisted Freq, Impact, Cooper, and Kevin Energy are just some of the guys I think that do a sick job when it comes to freeform.

Trancecore goes back way before 1996! There is stuff as far back as 1993 that had a Trance feel! Q-tex used to have a Trance infulence in some of their tracks aswell.
After my next mix (which is still in testing stages but starting to come together at last) I might do an Old Skool Trancecore & Freeform mix with some classics!
Rememeber my Bouncy Freeform topic? That is good stuff as well although I fear some Freefrom is starting to sound weak I think compared to the mainstream it still sounds hard enough to be called Hardcore!

Personally I liked the earlier Trancecore stuff when it was Hardcore with Trance elements rather than the later fast Trance. I don't mind a bit of Freeform (prefer it to UK Hardcore) but can't listen to a totally Freeform mix. But then the only 170bpm+ Hardcore I listen to these days are Luna-C mixes where he throws in all forms of Hardcore!

^^^ I think Trancecore has it's origins in 1995 & wasn't until 1997 that it became a followed style & then became Freeform in 1999! There are some Trance inspired tracks from as far back as 1993 & as I said there were artists like Q-tex who had tracks witha Tracnecore feel. Some Gabber artists also used alot of Trance elements in there tracks again from as far back as 1995!

Scott Brown did alot of good Trancecore in the late 1990s, funnily enough off the Bouncy Techno label! Lost Generation being one prime example! Elysium also being a Trancecore hit of his!

Agreed.
I can't really enjoy the sounds of pre 2000 freeform to its value. I guess I'm not enough of an acid fan.

you're right, there were plenty influences back then too. i've been ckecking out that bonkers 3 mix 95_was_the_time mentionned, and its interesting, I guess :P
still not my scene really... I never even heard a set of this kind of stuff in a party yet either :( I'll probably start loving it one day anyways, like I always end up discovering different Hardcore era's and labels I had missed on.
Nowadays Freeform, on the other side, keeps amazing me :)
