Ok, so you are a producer and you have a track that you are pleased with, but dont think is good enough to be released (dont worry i dont mean myself lol im just curious how this works)
so you decide that you want another producer to remix your track in the hope that they can add an extra something and put it into the 'releaseable' category.
What is the deal? Does the DJ who makes the remix get a one off payment from the producer whose track it is for the remix? or does his get a one off payment for making the remix and then a percentage of the royalties too?

either! if its guarenteed to make a lot of money they will probably want a percentage, if not they will probably want a lump sum for security. all depends though..

Again, its a negotiable thing.

If you give a one off payment then its usually labeled as a remix.

If you split the royalties then the "remixer" may suggest its labeled as a collaboration

There are no hard and fast rules - like most things in business you sort it all out between the people involved, and again like all things in business it is often wise to get it all down on paper and signed by all parties (ie a contract). Last thing you want is your fantastic remix that you paid £100 for storming the charts and the remixer coming back and demanding 50% of your royalties.
