can anyone whos into this sort of thing give me some tips?

ive read so much conflicting information on the net i dont know what to think :?

if i cut my calories by say 500 but upped my protein and hit the weights with a bit of cardio each week would i be able to lose fat and gain strength/muscle tone at the same time???

everything i read contradicts one another :?

If you plan on doing weights I would advise that 500 a day would probably kill, I would stick to the recommended daily or going up to like 3000 depending on how rambo you want to look, all depends on your current build and what you plan to achieve really, and if your going to do weights make sure you use a belt otherwise you'll ache twice as much and risk putting your back out, which can take weeks to recover from ( I know this becuase I start doing weights pissed up the other week and I still cant lift shit). Your gonna ache like crazy anyway when you starting untill your body gets used to it, but just make sure you give yourself enough time to recover. Batterys running out in keyboard now lol hope this helps.

Edit: Oh and cutting your calories down won't help you lose any fat, you cut down your body goes into "survial mode" and just ends ups storing more fats so you can survive.

Few basics:

It's better to have 5-6 small meals a day than 3 big ones. Keeps the metabolism burning all day so constantly burning off excess weight.

Diet is hugely important. Minimise fat, calorie, carb, sugar food. You want protein to build muscle such as sirloin steak, chicken breat etc. Or protein powder if you want but if you have that, it will replace a 'meal'

No fruit or dairy. Fruit has a big concentration of natural sugars (an apple is around 15% of a daily persons sugar) and dairy is high in fats. So no cheese, milk etc

Constantly keep your workout routine getting a slightly bit harder every day. Never let your body become used to it. Do 30mins/10 reps one week, do 32/12 the next or up the pace/weight.

Your workout should be balls to the wall. You can burn off far more in 30 mins if you go hard than in 2 hours of leisurely workout. Saves ya time.

If you've already got the weight though ya won't really need the protein as you'll have the fat to turn into muscle to begin with but still keep carbs, sugar, fat and calorie as low as possible.

That is a bit extreme though but will cut it quick and requires you to do alot of shopping for food yaself lol.

I generally just learnt what was good and what wasn't. Never fry anything, minimise dairy, no sugar on anything, minimise carbs (no pasta!)etc.

Few simple things on diet:

Never eat after 7pm, you don't do anything to burn it off.

Drink mainly water.

Take out a portion of something bad for you and change it to a veg portion on main meal.

Start drinking spirits with a diet mixer =P.

Soup ftw! Mainly water so low in calories and shiz but filling.

No goddamn take-aways! Ever!

Find some nice ways to make salads =P (<3 Ham and Low fat cottage cheese salad with jalapeno peppers)

TBH most people know what is good and not good for them to eat/drink. Just they decide to look the other way. You gotta have dedication and sooner you realise you're eating for sustanance rather than enjoyment the better =P

Most of the stuff you're gonna read on the internet is for people that want to become ****ing Mr. Universe. I very much doubt you're gonna stop going out round town every now and then and stop drinking coffee/tea etc. Best way is to look at what you eat now (truthfully, only person you're lying to is yourself) and see how you can change it for the better.

Sted's don't do anything on their own, they just make your be able to train longer by pushing your fatigue back. So instead of only being able to do 2 hours, you can do 4. On their own they won't do shit.

Agreed they wont do anythign on there own, but just making you train for longer aint right!

I trained with a lad 1 hour a night he took a shot of decker and a shot of sustiden (sp) 2-3 times a week he ended up massive, after that he took fat strippers whilst doing cv to get ripped.............

I have Ab pads which you stick to your body where you like. I have been using them for around 5-6 weeks & have seen a massive difference. Obviously you need to be eating healthy too or their a waste of time. I have a healthy yogurt in the morning, a piece of fruit at lunch & something light for dinner. Walking does my head in so i tend to go for at least an hours cycle each day. The weight soon drops off.

As an ex-bodybuilder I know a bit.

Any advise firstly depends on what body type you are - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ectomorphic

Once you've determined that mate, PM me.

You know for a minute there i thought you were talking about roly poly birds taking their clothes off lol.

Steroids help speed up your body's recovery time too don't they? So you can train more frequently and can always be full throttle.

Anyway, i know i didn't ask the question like but, cheers for the info SixFeet.

http://stronglifts.com/

^^^ a good website with lots of info and a fantastic beginer's training programme.

Lots of people overcomplicate things but there's really no need.

Read that website, get your diet sorted, start lifting weights and (especially if you're a beginner) you'll make excellent progress.

You can eat as much fat as you want so long as your overall calories are kept at a reasonable level.

Fat is just an energy source (as are carbs), if you intake more energy than you expend you'll gain weight.

Ive been told in the past that fat doesn't turn to muscle, they are two different things. If you have fat and want to tone up you need to burn the fat off, then build muscle

You were told quite rightly Jax lad

You can lose fat and build muscle at the same time, but they're entirely different tissues and one can't turn into the other.

Wow i knew some useful info lol.

A tip i was once given for loosing weight was not to eat before you exercise. If you exercise without something on your stomach your body burns off stored energy. When you then eat afterwards, you burn it off what you have ate through day to day exercise (only as part of a controlled diet lol)
