well, im a bit dissapointed to be honset, me and my lady have a policy of only buying new dvds when they are £3 - that seems to be the price they stop at before they dissapear from the shop shelves also pretty much the price you'll pay if you get off amazon after shipping...

..and now woolworths are set to close by January 5th if no-one buys them up...
aparently they supply 30% of englands music cds and also dvds.

so not only am i loosing a place to buy dirt cheep dvds and movies...

but over 25,000 people are going to be spilled into the job market at a time when im looking for a job!!!!!!

god damn!

Hopefully it will give a much needed and deserved boost to the fast disappearing independent record shops then!

It's a crap shop with its fingers in too many pies. I hate huge shops that sell loads of different things and employ staff who know sweet F.A. about any of it and get no training on it. I'd rather pay a couple of quid extra for things and get them from somewhere that know what they're talking about and is happy/knowledgeable enough to help out with ordering things in etc.

The only bad thing about all this is the amount of people that are going to loose their jobs.

There is nowhere near you that sells dvd's!? Mad. Even our local garage in the little village I live in sells cheap DVD's.

Haha, it wasn't a dig at the employees. How could they ever be expected to learn everything about everything in a store that size. Was a dig at big stores who sell loads of different stuff and expect staff to cover everything.

That said... I hate it when people get jobs in a place like PC World/HMV and still don't have a bloody clue!

Independent shops FTW.

well the local garage im sure has at least a selection of ...maybe 8 different dvds - all of which will be over £3, other than that, no-where but the charity shops have dvds - and even then they are either football dvds or some 1990's tv horror flicks..

that said outside of town - ASDA have a fairly good dvd selection, but their prices havent been great either recently.

im cheep, im not paying £5 in hmv for a dvd when i can find it in woolworths for £3.

the last "mom and pop" store we have closed a few weeks ago.
why? im guessing because they are in a back-alley and nobody can see them, selling second hand cds for £7 and brand-new ones for £15+
i love second hand cds stores...but come on! - its hardly money-sense to buy a back alley store and then having the smallest sign possible on the street wall saying "blah blah records this way" then when your custys actually find it...having astronomical prices.

theres an independant cd store in windermere, we popped in and they were selling "hardcore adrenaline 3" for £15.... which i then picked up later in woolworths for just £4

mind you, you cant get me to pay any more than £5 for some of todays hardcore release's the rest i will buy - when they get on ebay.

Meh, I would still rather pay the extra and support them. Record stores don't get comps like HA in for any less that £10-£12. So they've got to add £2-£3 on it or what's the point. You get it cheap in places like WW as they're buy feck loads in and then sell off old stock at a loss to get rid after a certain amount of time. This obviously means that people wont buy from a more expensive record store. Problem is... When all the record stores are gone, where will you go to order in a CD that places like WW have run out of? Or one that is not in the top 40 albums/comp albums that they don't stock? They wont order one in for you, can be sure of that. It's also nice to be able to talk to staff who can recommend things to you and know what's what.

Sure it's nice to get things cheap but at what cost are you getting them things cheap?

I don't really expect many to agree with me mind. It's the way the world is going. Just sucks a bit. All adds to a soceity in which everyone does/buys what leading stores/brands etc. tell them they should be doing.

at what price?

£3 :)

i agree with you bulby - but its not going to change the fact that im unemployed and cant afford to help out people who have managed to get their own buisness...

its all supply and demand - woolworths started out as a mom and pop type thing.. south park did a good job of showing it in their walmart episode.

well tbh, getting them in store is the only thing that stops me from spending too much

if i go in woolworths they will have say...20 dvds that are £3, and of those 20, 4 are worth buying...

..if i go on amazon...well, they have thousands of dvds for £2.50 with shipping...

and as ive found out in the past - its hard to say "ok stop" lol

i already typed in the word "hardcore" sorted by price, and bought up all the hardcore (dance) cds that were below £5 eventually as the pages went on the price went up and i stopped...do that with dvds, the pages just go on and on! aghh!

plus its all to do with that instant gratification isnt it.
at the moment im only allowing myself dvds and cds ..as soon as im employed all that will stop

and it will be back to buying vinyl again :D (which is the other great thing about 2nd hand stores - not getting charged up the waaazoooooo on the shipping prices on ebay...£3 to send a piece of vinyl - dont be tarded! i bought 170pieces of hardcore vinyl (a vinyl lot) and the shipping? £11...£11 pound!!!!!! so dont charge me £3 for one!!!!

well..i kinda went off a bit there, and off topic...
