Have all the money to pay for stuff upfront. DO NOT rely on getting the money on the door to pay for stuff.
Start small and work your way up. You need to get some sort of a following going before jumping in at the deep end.
If you're planning on going for that date you need fliers printed and to start handing them out NOW! I hope you have them ready.
If it's an under 18 event it would be a good idea to get a few kids from local schools to hand fliers out. They should be happy to do this for nothing. It will get them to all the right people and get them all talking about it.
Make sure you have someone there who actually knows how to set up a proper sound system.

sound advice there! only thing id add to that is security. if its anything like the u18's events that happen up here they end up being a meeting place for people to settle grudges. either hire some security or get some imposing mates to come along

find a few people from the local high schools in your area and offer them free "V.I.P." entry if they help promote. get them to flyer and poster their schools and the tickets will sell them selves

Be aware of any local by-laws regarding curfews etc too or licensing restrictions on the venue you are using. For instance, we used the Palace in Blackpool and kids under 14 (I think it was) weren't allowed in past either 11 or 12pm so we put a lower age restriction on the event.
Also need to be careful on any alcohol stakes, although if it is purely an U18 night then I am assuming it will be a dry bar.
Security was the other thing I was going to mention but that has already been covered.
Make sure you have all the appropriate licenses covered as well for playing music.

the venue has all the licenses and we need to finsih at 11:30 and be out by 12 which isnt to bad, the bar will be dry. security will be keeping an eye out for booze etc. all the gear used will be PAT tested a month before the event as well as double gear incase something fails.
thanks for all your help and tips, anything i may have forgot?
