"What if I don’t know how to write music?
Songsmith is for you. Get your first taste of songwriting just by singing into a microphone, then explore different styles and arrangements, even if you don't know the first thing about music theory."

Great, that means even more tracks coming out from no nothing producers than last year

If you know nothing about music or music theory then doesnt that mean, apart from obviously extremelty naturally talented singers, surely you wouldnt be singing perfectly in key?! If at all!?

So... sound slike a good way to make an out of key track to me...

aLSO, it's not the musical aspect of hardcore that is the "difficult" part.

Hardcore in general is relatively simple music-wise.

Its the fine-tuning of the production and engineering that takes a long time.

My point exactly. Youtube and the other file sharing places will be flooded with a new breed of Rankins

Can I also add that the video is probably the gayest thing I've seen for years.

The title of this thread pisses me off, especially when there are some of us putting hard work into tunes.

read his post... it's obviously poking fun at the blandness of hardcore these days, and the title is sardonic

Uh... mate it is...

Compared to even playing an instrument hardcore is realtively simple music-wise.

Compare it to a symphony which is generally pretty advanced - hardcore is basically one riff - primarily consisting of a 4 bar chord progression (sometimes 8) with a little variance - generally no key changes, and every instrument follows the same chord progression.

Not to mention that upfront hardcore uses mostly major scales with no key changes and trim all the fat and you've basically got (in an average upfront hardcore track) a riff with a 4 bar chord progression. Everything in the track follows this progression.

Compare it to something even (realtively) simple in music - the piano (which is ONE PART of a symphony) and a relatively moderate piece on piano is INCREDIBLY more advanced both technically and theory and that might put into context for you.

Its a shame that tunes don't use the Minor keys more. It would add more variation to the tunes.

To me Hardcore is the "manga" of music. simple at first glance but unequaled in emotion in the final product.

As for the application of theory in hardcore, you'll always be able to tell who has some knowledge of it and who doesn't, like in any other style of music.

I've worked with hardcore for 6 months and rock for 4 years and I can say that hardcore is extremely simple to make. It's all down to how you master the track - whether the kick is solid enough, the snare doesn't rattle the ears, the synth doesn't go so high that it pierces the eardrums, the percussion has the perfect synced reverb, blah blah blah.

Of course, going off what Andy said about it being a simple 4-bar chord progression with a riff, I think that's ********. Or maybe it's just me, but I like to make hardcore with lots of different things going on. There's no point in sticking to the normal. I put a lot of piano in all of my songs to keep things moving melodically.

The simplicity of most dance music is common, though. But that's part of the fun. Even then, you'll only find the producers saying it's simple, whereas others will have absolutely no clue what they're doing.
