Cubase 4 + free and/or widely used VSTis should work nicely
I don't usually use that many free VSTis but these are pretty good:
Superwave P8
Superwave Trance Pro
Tbh, one of the challenges will definitely be sticking to free stuff. It's not always easy to get phat sounds out of free shit, esp. if you can only use free VST effects.

haha I dont use Cubase so that counts me out of this project (from a producing point of view) I nominate Triquatra or Dain-ja to run this project

Not being able to save will be one. ;)
I don't have Cubase. I don't like the idea of not having a built in sampler. Thinking of changing to Sonar 8 at some point.

there goes that idea then lol
one of the rules says - "3. Producers put in order of when they will have a go at the track."
if the producers state which version of fl studio they have before this list is made, they could be put in order so the people with the newest version work on the track last

like i said earlyer - happy with cubase, but i know alot of people on here wont be and would prefer to go with fruity
looks like the first thing that needs to happen is a vote of everybody who wants to work on the project on what software we're going to use..
**edit**
to be honest, Reason would be even simpler - because everything is already there...it would just be a case of samples...

lol dont take those rules as set in stone. Im not in charge of this, they were just a set of things that I felt needed to happen for it to be a success. Whoever wants to take this on can decide the actaul process.
I think Triquatra is right, a vote of who wants to be in on what sequencer, the most popular sequencer will win.

Just use Kontakt. Kontakt 3 is really good. I used to hate Kontakt until like...last week, but it's actually quite efficient if you build a "template" drum kit and just load that + replace samples when you start a new project. Much more powerful than the stuff built into FL too - the filters are AMAZING for working with samples.
aaand Cubase 5 looks amazing.

Maybe, but VERY few producers use Reason on here AFAIK.
I don't mind doing this in FL but I have FL8. I can't say I like working in FL anymore since I've been on Cubase for awhile but if people only have FL I can deal with it.
FL provides free updates so I don't see why everyone doesn't have FL8 anyways. Even if your copy is less than legit, why wouldn't you upgrade to the newest version?

Like I said in the last post, i'd be right up for helping on this track but again, it comes down to which software program we can all decide on.
I use Reason & fl. Reason would be great but there's not many people on here that use it.
My vote would be for fl. I've not even been using it long but everyone seems to have it even if it isn't their main program.
Also, like Bulby said, i've been sent a couple of fl files before & for some reason they just didn't want to open. This could be a real snag as this project gets underway.
ALSO, Andy will be wanting to start the HHC.com Track Comp soon so it would be good to hear from him & his views. The CD that i'm putting together shouldn't be effected by this as we've got a fair few tracks in now anyway & the deadlines 1st March

Hmmm. Its a lot of money and they don't even have a demo though. Sucks. If I don't like it there is nothing I can do at that point.
I don't have reason.
We could work from people who use 7 up to people who use 8 I guess. The other thing we can do is export ideas as audio. This has its own complications though.

You can walk into any decent music store and try Cubase. They almost always have a computer with it setup.
...and it's not that expensive with a student discount.
Seriously, the built in "Melodyne" type tool is going to be SO useful. Plus convolution reverb and such. I'm cumming in anticipation :P
As for this HHC.com track. I think everyone should be forced to upgrade to FL8. There's no reason to be using old software anyways - I don't see why people wouldn't upgrade. This can be their motivation. It doesn't cost anything anyways.
I don't mind organizing this but I think others have volunteered already.
Perhaps the order should be from least experienced production wise to most experienced production wise? That way we get all the off key stuff and/or mixdown errors out of the way early on but still use the ideas everyone has?
