What does everyone think of it? Is it just a phase? Is it the future? Is it socialising for the unsociable? Is it a revelutionary way to keep in touch with old friends?

I have facebook, which I do use alot. I have got alot of friends on there who I dont see often, due to various reasons, who I am glad I have on facebook because it is nice to keep in touch.
Unfortunately there is the other side of facebook such as status updates:

Person X is eating a kitkat (oh dear oh dear do I really care about this? btw I dont actually know someone called Person X :p

and the photos that get added:

Mrs Y has added 756,811 fotos to the album 'Saturday the 12th of June' (how many arm length fotos of them pouting do girls want to take?)

Facebook is a decent tool, but I think its important not to get carried away. Its nice to keep in touch, but do we want to live in a world where we only speak to our friends online?

If you do have facebook, check out this group (146 members is not enough :( : http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=28722383679 'Hardcore, Freeform and Gabba'

I also have a myspace which I just really dont use and fail to see the point of anymore :(
I think myspaz has had its day and no doubt facebook will soon follow.

I stick my tunes on Myspace and don't even have a Facebook account. Just can't be ****ed with them really.:P Despite being moaned at by people to set one up.

My mates who use the web frequently I can contact by e-mail or MSN and that's good enough for me really.

After all the social networking sites die off Msn will be left standing i think.

Bebo is just basically for teenagers to chat each other up. I just use it for advertising now

Facebook is an obsession with most people i dont see the attraction tbh, i do use facebook but just because all my old mates from school use it and it was nice to get in touch again, but i dont ever add random people or accept random adds (like bebo) usually because its my real name and i just dont like the fact of someone having my real name.

Myspace is just there for tunes really, nothing else i can see for it really. Kind of cool that most celebs have myspace but other than puttin tunes on there i dont use it.

Like you said, i think its a fad tbh. Msn will always be around though i think. Mines on almost 24/7 because my pc is always doing something even when im asleep or out and i dont tend to give my mobile number out so its a good way for people to get in touch with me or leave me a message.

The ones most exited about facebook are the ones that wouldnt otherwise use internet that much. It hasnt revolutionasized anything, at least not here. Just offers various features in one package.
I set up an account there some months back. I went my first 2 years of school in an international school somewhere in africa. Added my class photo and within few weeks, found ~75% of old class mates from the site o_O I was 6-8yo so didnt really get in touch with many of them, but was nice to see how widly spread over the world they all are now. After that have started to use the site on a somewhat regular basis. Dont really add people to it that much.

My little sister has teached me that you can actually filter certain people, if you dont want to get too many updates from them ;)

I find the most intresting thing about the site is you can share some photos, or small things about your life. Its fun to read and see what people are doing (you know friends that you dont see on a regular basis).

well, i used to have just a myspace, which i was reluctant to get originally ..that was back in...2005? i didnt need it, didnt see the point, then they made it so you could upload your own music, so that was the point i got one...everybody I knew in the states was on myspace and at the time, facebook would only accept you if you had a college email adress!
so even though my friends had facebook - i couldnt get it.

then they made it a free-for-all for anyone to join and i got it then, and started paying less and less attention to myspace, none of my family were on Myspace and everybody back in the UK was using facebook, I only really add family, friends that i have actually met, or know extreamly well online.

its a great way to stay in contact :) i dont think its really revolutionised anything, its certainly made keeping uptodate with people much easyer..

my fiancee found me using myspace whislt she was in the UK and i was back in the states..so if it wasnt for that, she wouldnt really have had a way of finding/getting in contact with me....

facebook is making people socially retarded i think.

i can't tell you how many people couldn't be bothered to give me the time of day in real life, but then have no problem chatting with me on FB when they are bored. what the **** is that? they pretend to be all buddy buddy by writing shit on your wall or commenting, but in real life it's totally different.

i don't like it.

pretty much sums up my sentiments about the website.

it's too easy to get sucked into this, MMORPGs and other synthetic lives if you will. go out, talk to some strangers while riding the bus and live life instead of sitting your pathetic ass in front of some ultra lame website like facebook for 4 hours a day.

i also find it SO funny the amount of people at my school who have laptops and think it is necessary to bring them to class. all they ever use them for is webcam chatting, and because i sit at the back of the room, i see EVERYONE who has a laptop (not exaggerating) checking facebook multiple times a day.

it actually looks so pathetic.

as everyone already said, i think it's nice to stay in touch with little kimmy who you went to summer camp with when you were 10, but to be honest, i don't give a shit that she's trying to convince her husband to buy matching a fridge and stove. and i also don't like all the mud slinging that goes on there either, or how you can just air your petty ******** to the world.

**** off facebook, you can keep your drama. i check it a couple times a week for 10 minutes, and that's enough time for me to remember how much i just loathe it.

VITALISM u r so full of shit.

if u really truly hate it and tell it to f**k off, then you are a hugeass hypocrite because u continue to use ur fb account. much like 95 is when he says how much hardcore sux and yet he's still a member of this site and is active. if u truly despise it like u said u do, then delete ur acct.

and probably the reason y ppl talk 2 u more online than they do in real life is so that they can roll their eyes at all the whining u do and prevent u from seein it. and it's easier to escape a conversation online than in real life. i think them running away from u screaming wouldn't be very subtle, don't u think?

yes there are ppl on FB who r obsessed with it. i used to be obsessed with it, but mainly because of the games they offer on there. but i don't spend a huge amount of time on there anymore, but i do frequently log onto it. if used properly, it is a perfect way to maintain a relationship on there and prevent u from losing touch with a person, or finding a person u haven't seen in ages and catching up.

of course real-life interaction is MUCH better than online interaction, but how do you frequently do it if you are from different cities/states/countries/continents at the moment? so suk it up and quit ur whining on it, or defend ur whining by deleting ur account

I agree with Vitalism to a point.

It's a great site to keep in contact with people in different states/countries. If you're a true friend of someone, then I think you can hang out with them in real life. If you don't want to, why am I friends with you? So you can just send me random pictures on Face Book? No, screw you.

Everything stated above is what I believe, and I wouldn't Face Book for much more then keeping in contact with friends too far to travel too.

~~

I don't have a Face Book by the way, I have a MySpace. And I haven't been on it in 6 years. If I want to talk to you, and you want to talk to me we'll meet up! That simple, imo. I don't consider you someone I would want to hang out with if you just want to talk on Face Book/MySpace.

Texting people something I do largely due to lowered price (:P), and it's easier. I have no problem talking to people in real life, but on the phone it's kind of dread. Conversations seem to last a lot longer through texts then through conversations on the phone and actually talking to people.

if we're getting nitty gritty....two of my previous girlfriends i met on the web originally lol

i was with one for 4 years and the other for about a year and a half...before i me them i knew them both online for about a year..
both of them ended the way all my other relationships ended

badly :(

i could go into this big rant thing about online relationships, because people are pretty quick to put the smackdown...but the long and short of it is...they have exactly the same catch as normal relationships

They Work..

(as long as you are with the right person)

eh vitalism has SOME FORM of a point, it was just expressed in an exceptionally obnoxious way.

The thing about facebook is, i have a lot of friends - friends that i see on a regular basis... Facebook reminds me of their birthdays, keeps a phonebook stored there that has actually been *so* useful for me when my phone has run out of battery, it makes it REALLY easy to organise an event (like someones 21st etc) it basically maps out your social events calender for you.

It's also a really good way for me to keep in contact with my friends who have gone overseas, or friends that are travelling. It also makes it reallly easy for them to show all their friends at once the photos that they have taken and the places they have seen, and what they have done - because showing them to EVERYONE individually would be a ****ing PAIN.

Also makes it really easy to get into contact with people i havent seen in YEARS that, otherwise, i may never have spoken to again, and didnt really have any other way to contact them.

I've never really had the experience that someone would talk to me on facebook that wouldn't give me the time of day in real life... Maybe that's just because you're extremely cynical?

Facebook is useful, it's good for when you need to kill some time and it makes everything so ****ing easy. Honestly, anyone who has to bitch about facebook THAT much, must not be able to make good use of it - must not have a very full social calender - must not have many friends :S
