Lost, let me explain...
The music I love is getting rubbish, the quality of new releases is depleting. I can't afford to buy new records, I can afford to download tracks but I only have 1 CD deck and can't afford to get another one at the moment so most of the sets I could mix would be sets of old tracks...not a bad thing by a long way, I'm an old skool hardcore head as most of you know but I still want to be able to keep up with the new tracks that are coming out. The only thing is the new tracks are mostly shite.
It's getting harder and harder to find a good track let alone a new album to listen too.
My response to this would be to make the music that I want to hear myself. Sadly I'm not talented enough to make it how I want it to be made.
Usually I would come to this website and browse through the new releases, read threads and posts. Now, if it's because of the lack of good music that's coming out or just because I've been posting on here for 5 years or so I'm finding this site less and less appealing to visit. I've noticed people's attitude's have changed, not just the "newbies" too, I'm talking about some of the more "respected" members of the site...maybe it's hitting us all and we are imploding...? Replies are laced with underlying attitude and people seem to be more prepared to slag each other off rather than have a good debate like they used too.
You may ask yourself why I don't make new threads? Well, each time I make threads they seem to get ignored. Maybe it's because they aren't good threads, maybe it's because my mix's aren't good..who knows? But one thing is certain, over the years I've tried and tried to do things for the site in my own little way like make mix's, make web site suggestions, pitched in with the members CD and god knows how many track ID's I've done but non of that seems to matter when I make a new thread. So why bother?
That's the way I see it.
This music scene is one of the biggest things in my life, it's helped to define me as a person and along with this website has helped to shape my outlook on life but now I'm finding they are both letting me down, without the music I have lost a big part of me, I've listened to it for 14 years or so...without the music I'm not sure what I will do...
Where do I go from here? Lack of good tracks, lack of good albums, lack of good posts and the overall feeling that I'm about to loose something huge in my life that I will never be able to replace if it goes.
Anger, frustration, sadness & sorrow - it feels like it's all coming to an end.
That's what I'm feeling right now.

Quite an outburst there!
You're a man who's passionate about his music. no doubt. The comment about other people on this board who are spoiling it, I would have to agree with to an extent. I don't think you can quite put your finger on why your so frustrated though. The majority of what you just wrote is all over the place (maybe much like the state of hardcore) but you can't hit the nail on the head, or pinpoint why or where the industry has gone wrong, don't think anyone can!
The main thing i'm not feeling with in the scene atm is how hardcore keeps churning out the same old tunes, same old remixes, same old drivel. So i do understand where you're coming from for sure.
You're a valued member of the board, so don't let this be a goodbye speech :P :P

....well,
your mixes are some of the best on here, I look forward to them and there's always a track I've either not heard before or haven't heard in years,
so it's not your mixes.
If you think that you don't have sufficient 'talent' (I'd call it 'experience') to produce what you'd like to hear then do collaborations with those who have (which I've noticed you've recently done)
which is good.
People's attitudes? ....mnmm, that could be born of 'frustration'.
Someone makes a point and it falls flat, like casting pearls before swine.... insensitive, ignorant, self righteous swine at that.
You're quite right, a good debate requires open minded consideration of other people's points of view but.... (see above).
I don't know about anyone else but it's always a point of interest when I see that you've posted something,
mainly because you know what you're talking about.
Where do you go from here? ....into the kitchen, put the kettle on and make a nice cup of tea, then
have a quiet word with your lovely wife and tell her to get herself back on here! ....'cos we miss her.
Stuff moves in cycles mate. Stick with it. There's some good music coming out soon and one of your tracks is part of it.

Mortis, I've kind of gone through these stages too. Music-wise, just pop in some of your favorites and/or some good classics. Usually works for me. And saying your not talented enough to produce? Bollocks. That's what a lot of folks say, only to give it a try and get impressive results. As for the site... well, people do change (for the better or for the worse). With people ignoring you... I don't usually see it that way. Trust me, if you stopped contributing one day, people would certainly notice, and be rather sad about it.
As Ionosphere said, stuff moves in cycles.
Tried to say it as good as I can... sorry, not really good with this kind of thing.

I have to admit that i have been feeling sort of the same too. Over the last 6 or so months there has been a lot more attitude on this site. Waste of time stupid threads which i cannot even be bothered to reply too. I'm always trying to think up good threads to keep everyone
interested. I'm not slagging this site of because i love being part of it & consider it to be the best site for Hardcore on the net.
Not so long ago i posted on here that my love for mixing had gone & i couldn't bring myself to even play a record let alone have mix. Thankfully after about 9 months i began to get back into it again & mix at least every other day now.
On the subject of albums i can't remember the last time i listened to a whole album all the way through. Maybe because i hate male vocals & tend to just skip the track straight away, but i'm also getting sick of the same sort of sounds used over & over again.
Music has also been a huge part of my life & having been into the scene since 1990 I've spent a fortune throughout the years but really find it hard to spend the money these days on choons that after a week or so will just end up getting pushed to the back of the pile.
As for you Mortis your mixes are always some of the best on this site. I normally burn them to disc & take them to work & enjoy. Your always one of the first to ID Tracks for people & your knowledge of choons in second to none.
It was a shame to see Kathryn get fed up with the site & leave as i've enjoyed getting to know you both over the last few years. Hopefully you won't be going too.
I think you should have a little break, refresh & get back on the decks & put together a nice little mix full of all your favorite choons & post on here for us all to enjoy.

that's the biggest rubbish you've ever posted mortis...especially since I was just jamming to one of your older mixes in my car on the way to work =P
and I'll admit I'm in the same boat as you with the music...I still buy records every couple months but it's mainly new releases from kfa (which you should buy on preorder right now!) or I sift through several pages of records to pick a handfull.

I can't remember ever hearing any of your mixes, but I'm sure that they are great seeing as how all of the ppl complimented u on them. But u should keep on giving producing a chance. Practicing will definitely make you a better producer. and I agree with Ionosphere, you should find someone to collaborate with and you'll pick up experience that way as well
also, maybe taking a break from the scene would be a good idea too. i think if spoox had stayed any longer b4 he briefly left the scene, he would've eventually be gone for good.
but if even that doesn't help, then maybe you should leave. i don't really recommend it, seeing as how you will be greatly missed here. but i think it would b a good idea to leave while you still have good memories of the scene and so we can remember all the good things you have done for it too. and if you wait too long to leave, you might end up being a bitter irritating member like 95WasTheTime

You've got a kid and married now, you have other priorities in life, you can't be on the know 24/7 for hardcore music even if you want to... Chill and listen to the radio for a while, don't interact with the forum or just read the news page, dont feel it an obligation to have to read every new forum topic.

attitudes are where it's at. people need to grow thicker skin anyway, the way i see it...
you mixes are good, i still have one on my old ipod that is breaking in half. i bought a newer one but still listen to my busted old 60gb one, and your mix is actually quite frequently played for bus rides to and from school.
take a break and come back. hhc and hhc.com will always be here.
the best way to make something fresh again is to stop doing it, or in this case listening to it. shift your focus and later if you want, you can shift it back.

It's nothing of the sort. It's a thread that I made to get things off my chest about how I'm feeling with the music and this site. And this kind of response is the kind of shit that I'm talking about with "attitude". Why be such a tosser?
It's no wonder people don't bother making threads anymore.

I've never left the scene. I took a break from mixing for a while to refresh. I was worried i was getting too old or something so i posted about it on here & was told to take a break, which i did. After several months i got back into it again.
