I have no idea why, but I slowly start to get enough of it. I have more fun on mixing House, Trance and now I'm getting into Drum & Bass. Maybe that's because there's less and less good tunes out there, and the good ones are too hard to find.

I know what you mean. You have to keep buying new choons. Mixing the same style of music all the time can get boring. I normally switch to D&B if i get fed up mixing Hardcore.

seems like a stupid excuse but im being put off mixing at the moment because the table my decks are on is too low - its hurting my back - especially when im scratching, having to do the freekin splits to be at the right level for my decks.., and all the vinyl is on the floor

i need to buy a nice deckstand table thing like i used to have - and i like all my vinyl to be up waist level so i can flick through it without killing my back..

also the last 35% of my vinyl is down in cornwall still as i didnt have room enough to bring it all back up the first time i was down - got my sister bringing it up when she comes for the wedding...thats the other thing thats putting me off, it seems like all the songs i want to mix are down there lol

Yea, when that starts to happen, that normally means your just bored of the ch00nage. That happens to me all the time, you just have to wait for new ch00ns to come out, which unfortunately, takes forever in this scene (digital releases atleast).

mis-typing the word tunes with two zeros may also help rekindle that fire and makes you cooler.

also, branching off into other different genres helps a lot. you take a break, but don't lost the skill of beatmatching. other genres are just as good, dnb has the same tempo but a lot darker of a sound obviously.

it makes hardcore fresher, because you realize how much you miss it.

Not necessarily ;)

I find myself getting bored of mixing Hardcore a lot, that's why i try to throw as many different styles into the mixes i do actually do. Failing that, a nice break to mix, say, Trance is a good way to go.

DnB isn't always darker, there's also some happy DnB. Check out this tune for example :

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PUsF74vRn7Y ( no idea why nobody likes it ( comments ), I think it's a nice track )

or

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8DPG3KqNqKw

That's not dark at all. They are so many different styles of Drum & Bass. Just compare "Pendulum - Propane Nightmares (Celldweller Remix)" and "Gasmask 71 - The Prophecy". That's like 2 genres.

Anyway, as it's already been said, it takes ages in this scene good tune to be released, in House, Trance, DnB they are choons coming out every day. Hardcore is like … meh. It's not even 'hard'. I'm okay with it if it's cheesy, I love cheese, but they are 2 things I hate :

- those micky mouse synths in most of the new tunes, they really annoy me and I actually can't hear them anymore ( like in Don't Wanna Let You Down (Joey Riot Remix) - Sy & Unknown Featuring Ben Williams or Feel Complete - Joey Riot )
- those beats where you can't say they're not hard but you cannot say they're soft either, and they sound like someone is knocking on the door ( check out Don't Wanna Let You Down (Joey Riot Remix) - Sy & Unknown Featuring Ben Williams again and Braveheart (Joey Riot Remix) - Frantic & Gammer )

And where's the bassline in those tunes ? There is no bassline :S
I also noticed how shitty Joey Riot is while searching for examples.

Thats so ironic that someone posted this thread because lately I have been moving more towards mixing more jungle...drumfunk/liquid funk type of dnb. I am just not impressed with any of the tracks coming out right now in the hardcore scene...and I'm a massive fan of hardcore.

That is why you mix all genre's.

You never get tired of it, imo. Playing one style is all fine and dandy, but you have skill when you can mix multiple genre's into one mix. It shows you deviate from the beaten path, and keep me on my toe's enjoying the tune's.

Again, imo.

Hmm well you can't mix any genres together. You cannot mix House with Gabber for example. I mean you can but it would sound shit and you'd have to pitch the House track up to at least 160 BPM.

I know how to mix everything that is around the same speed, let's say everything around 130 BPM => House, Trance, some DnB, Breakbeat. That works together. But mixing Salsa with Hard Trance or Classical with Metal.. nah lol that just doesn't work. Whereas I could imagine a Heavy Metal track mixed with some classical, it wouldn't sound that bad imo. But then it also depends a lot on the track.

Firstly drum and bass is round about the same bpm as Hardcore. Second noone said mix everything together like house - speedcore - classical. You could put a set together and put all those in though, maybe not right after one n another but i can be done.

Drum & Bass varies between 120 and 190 BPM.

Why not ? What do you understand by different genres ? There's not electronic music in the world. And yes it could work if you start with Classical, Salsa, Breakbeat, House, then Trance, Hard Trance, Hardstyle, Hardcore, Gabber and Speedcore it will work, that's sure.

What do i "understand by different genres? There's not electronic music in the world", youve lost me mate, what do you mean?

Thats what im saying you could throw all sorts into a set, it could also work the other way round. And something like speedcore set at about 280bpm would mix nicely with something like house or dubstep set at 140. You can be a bit more creative with your mixes than Hardcore track followed by another hardcore track followed by another.

Well I don't listen to Speedcore anyway haha!

I am creative. Very creative. But it gets harder and harder to find tricks and stuff. And it's also the tracks, as I said. It's not fun mixing songs you don't like.

I wasn't talking about new Drum & Bass, but more about Oldskool stuff.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drum_and_bass#Tempo

… which you can mix into tracks around 120 BPM from other music genres.
