ok so my sister is going to college soon, and she can get discounts on computers......but only macs >_<
so like she said to my mom if she wants we could use it and get a new mac if we wanted
but i wanted to know if it would be worth a mac (im a pc guy)
i dont really know much about them....
like the price with out the discount is like $949(us) and with it would be $807
its the 20-inch 2.66GHz mac all in one
or i can go for a 13" 2.gzh mac book (but its eol... backstock) and thats the same price
should i go mac or should i go with a barebones windows kit for like $200
what would you do?

i don't kno how macs are when u get those student discounts, but dell gives us student discounts, but u can't customize them and most of the time u can get something better for the same price if u customize it urself.
it's all up 2 u. o and does she get a free ipod with it? that's 1 of the reasons macs sell so well in the states they have a student discount + u get a free ipod with it

Theres for comparison:
Some cool case with power (e.g. Nexus Breeze is quiet, Lian Li looks good etc) ~100$
Motherboard (Asus M2N68-VM) 73$
Memory (Kingston PC6400 800MHz 4GB DDR2) 27$
Processor (AMD AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+ / 2.90GHz) 75$
HDD (Western Digital Caviar GreenPower 500GB 7200RPM, 16MB) 60$
GPU (Asus, Nvidia) ~100$
Optical Drive (Sony BR & DVD/CD-Rewritable) 40$
BenQ 24" full HD display ~300$
Mouse/Keyboard (Logitech Cordless Desktop S510) 50$
Computer price: 825$
OS -> use your old one or Linux
Software -> use freeware / open source
As far as the Mac goes, i think the key question is what do you think of its OS?

You say yourself that mac+games=fail so why the hell is it a hard choice?

Like rosin said, how exactly is that a hard choice? Just get a Windows box. OSX has an almost nonexistent selection of games. Not to mention you should be prepared to spend $100-300 more than you would for a PC for a good graphics card.
Also, ITT: Mac vs PC! Fight!

no 1 here is fighting, but they are basically wondering y u would ever buy a mac 4 gaming
it's obvious to every1 that pc is the way 2 go
as for building ur own computer, make sure u get an expert to help u out because it may be amazing for awhile, but sometimes if u don't get the stuff to be correctly compatible with each other, it could crash

this is freaking stupid, why would you spend $800 for a computer you don't want just because you can get it for $150 off? if you don't want it, you don't want it...

I don't see the point in installing an operating system that can do maybe 0.3% of what Windows 7 can. Save the hard drive space for something like linux. Or just storage.

YOU CAN LOAD WINDOWS ON A MAC IF YOU HATE THE OS THAT'S ALREADY LOADED ON THERE.

Why buy a mac to put windows on it?
Wouldn't it be alot cheaper just to buy a regular pc?

Exactly. If you want Windows or Linux, just buy a regular computer or build one yourself. If you want OS X, buy a mac (of if you're smart and not in the mood to pay the "Apple Tax" just turn your PC into a hackintosh.).
