ok so like do people look at you (as an artist) differently if you use "dj" in you artist's name

this is a crapy example...
Dj Atomsk.... and then Atomsk

would "Dj Atomsk" be more popular than "Atomsk", cuz it has "dj" in it?

thats how it seems kinda

If I'm understanding you correctly I don't like the DJ before names. I prefer for example Brisk & Ham rather than DJ Brisk & DJ Ham.

if u jus produce u shouldnt put a dj infront of your name n if u dj u hv a choice. it really doesnt matter if u hv "dj" in front of your name. if u want people to listen. promote the sh it out of yourself n produce quality music.

Oh i see. No i wouldn't think so. Too me DJ seems a bit dated. So i think without is more popular.

People like Rankin who call themselves "DJs" has made me never want to use the title. To disassociate myself from those twats as much as is possible.

Same, however on this site the name "Revs" was already taken, if it wasn't I would have registered my account without the "DJ".

Reminds me of DJ Splash. I've got so many tunes from him but I've never heard a set he made. And his tracks are not even DJ-friendly.

i think to start off with it's ok to use it. but it would be dumb to use it if all you do is produce, and do absolutely no DJing.

and as far as being outdated, it is definitely dropped after a person has established themselves. ham used to be known as "dj ham". but he's so well known now he doesn't need the dj anymore, even when he produces his own tracks.

also "brisk & ham" is easier to remember than "dj brisk & dj ham" simply for marketing reasons. shorter titles are easier to remember.

if your unheard, then DJ is a nice touch to your name that define who your are immediately.

if you kept it as 'atomsk', it could be mistaken for a username and not standout.

established dj's and producers use just 'Darwin' and 'Ham' get recognised either way due to their establishment.

do you mix? if yes then you qualify for the term DJ.

I think these days "DJ" is only used as a promotion tool. For example, someone who doesn't normally use it might be on a flyer with DJ before their name because the promoter thought it would look more popular.

In my opinion you call yourself whatever name you want and, let the others call you a DJ.
