Can anyone on here tell me how much St George's day is celebrated in England? It's just that up here St Andrews day seems just to be an excuse to get pished, nothing else. They're seems to be a bizarre fascination with St Patrick's day up here too, probably just for the getting pished part though.
Oh, and happy St. George's day to all it may apply to :)

Better if we didn't celebrate St. Gerorge's day - only get accused of being racist!
For any other country it's about celebrating your national pride. For us English, we're expected to keep quiet about it while having everybody else's customs forced on us.

Never said anybody tells us to be quiet about it. Not complaining though, although being English doesn't quite mean what it has in the past.
But there is a definite stigma attached to the English celebrating anything though! Maybe we've asked for it (see football for explanation), but i see events advertised for allsorts and next to nothing for St. Georges day. My work has had parties for St. Patricks day with not an irishman in sight!

It's more or less the same here. St Patricks day is made out to be something huge, whilst St Andrews day is just ignored, more or less. To be honest, I cynically thought St Patricks day would only be big up here, as it gave Celtic fans another opportunity to celebrate their faux-Irishness. It's weird, really.

I thought the Scots would love their St Andrew's day? I know St Patrick's day is poplular but gets more hype than St. George's does! Does anyone know that two years ago was the 300th anniversary of The Union of Great Brition it not once did anyone mention it?

To be honest, I'd say Burns night is celebrated more enthusiastically. I remember the SNP made St Andrews day a public holiday in Scotland when they first got in. The problem was that it was at employers discretion, and it was a complete and utter failure.
Being the lot to ram "Scottishness" down our throats, I'm surprised the SNP haven't tried to do more to promote St Andrews day. Maybe they have, I dunno. I switch off when I hear Salmond harping on about something.
Indeed it was the 300th anniversary of the union :)

See, this is what I don't get. Scotland is notorious for it's rate of alcohol abuse. We have the worst rates of liver cirosis in Europe!, yet St Andrews day isn't quite celebrated the same as St Patricks.
