>For some people it's [fantasy metal] also love/hate on first listen.
I think your totally right. But I think the same can be said about happycore, which has always inspired a surprising and unusually strong reactionary hate in some people (in my experience). I think it has something to do with there inherent complete lack of irony. Who knows?
Fantasy Metal, aka Adventure Metal is a sub-genre of power metal. It has fantasy themes like dragons and wizards to it's lyrics and sometimes mixes orchestral arrangements, harpsicords, flutes or other medieval or viking motifs to it's music. Nightwish, Dragonforce and Hammerfall are some examples.

supstar: I dont know who made that "genre" but that would mean Rhapsody (of Fire) would be 'Adventure Metal'. They prefer to call themself "Filmscore" Metal.
It's the listeners that propably dubded it Adventure or Fantasy Metal, just like listerners dubed Happy Hardcore for Happycore (what I know not alot of artists liked that)

It's all semantic. I, personally, am not really one to get into genre discussions as a rule. I was just defining how I was using it. And the people in my loose circle all call Rhapsody 'adventure metal', if Rhapsody likes it or not, they can't stop us.
