no when freeform came around it was supposed to be a no holds bar genre to freshen up hardcore.
it was to encompass all different elements of dance music and not just be 'happy' hardcore which was becoming stagnant and loosing lots of producers to other genres and people were becoming bored with the music.

Yes its a shame that so many people have forgotten what the name Freeform was supposed to stand for and instead just expect the harder acid sounds over 4/4 kicks and offbeat basslines.
Not using genres as boundaries and playing tunes that go well together (whether they be D&B, Breakbeat Hardcore, Freeform, UK Hardcore or Hardcore Techno) should be more common (as demonstrated by people like Luna-C).
