Has anyone else noticed how many tracks today seem to lack anything in the middle, it's just a repeat of the intro? Take the 90s, you always had some cheesy, jolly, hyper, dark, etc. riff cut through the track and then the vocals or main sound of the track would cut back on.

Because people want to bash out a tune and play more tunes in a set....
There are tunes that don't even have a 2nd section and go for about 3 minutes (Girlz Girlz Girlz being one of them)
I've been thinking recently that this is a bad thing and perhaps people are getting lazier and not caring about what they write any more.
In fact, I'm going back to writing in the style of the mid-90's (in terms of feel, not sound! Eww cheese!) but I don't think that many people will be doing this any more. You can't cram 27 songs into a 75minute mix if they all go on for 5-6 minutes.

Same here Orbit1. Don't shun the breakdown!

I dunno, that's always my favorite part of Happy Hardcore music, the explosive middle section where some jolly, insane riff cuts through.
This is what I am talking about, starting at 2:22
And here, at 2:35
Well, you get what I am talking about. You dont hear that much in today's Happy Hardcore, just a repetive beat segment.

What orbit1 said is true, most DJ's will only play the first breakdown and mixout before the second one (if there is even a second one)... IF the tune is new or a major hands in the air anthem the DJ might play the second breakdown but normally the older the tune the quicker the mix out...
More tunes with middle bits would be cool, but it might be almost too long these days crowds get bored quick and want change change change :)

Whenever I listen to Clubland X-treme / True Hardcore / Crush On Hardcore. it seems like the track goes by so quick and I don't get to know the track.

Makes me wonder how slower genres with less going on manage to keep the crowds attention for the full length of the track?
Having said that, gabber seems to do a good job of keeping entertained for a while.

And that's sad if you ask me, what's the point of making a full track if DJ's are only willing to play 2 minutes of it? You could probably get by on samples from Juno they way it's going now.
I'm a traditionalist and believe that a track should be played in it's entirety and have breakdowns and bridges etc. Just because it's hardcore doesn't mean we have to only write and mix a third of a song. I blame compilation albums like Bonkers & CLXH and the way they're mixed - they have been the death of proper mixing and ushered in the era of the Youtube mix.

Exactly.
Perhaps the reason most tracks these days are just boring and repetitive, cause they know only 2-3 mins will be played.
'Music of the Primes' springs to mind as a track with an epic breakdown and buildup that will never get boring and should always be played in its entirety

I'm not sure about that. Every track on CXH has both breakdowns and plays the whole way through.

call me a nerd but ive always found length of song from different era's and genres interesting
im sure i remember at one point thinking "im sure songs used to be longer"
alot of trance ..older trance gets up round the 11min mark...some even to 13mins (sasha and maria naylor - be as one" springs to mind...but then of course thats the original, the radio edit is like 4mins...
i was chatting with rayovac last night actually about how songs tend to be built these days, what with the whole DJ friendly business
maybe people should stop making "DJ friendly tracks" and just make a song for what it is

I like YouTube mixes.
I'm kinda torn on this really. In a way I like the quick mixes but a bit of variety wouldn't hurt like. I usually prefer the second build up too. But it really keeps the energy going with the quick mixing I think.
