well... hardcore is mentioned to have begun as early as 89. Luna-c has been through thick and thin with Hardcore since 92.
unknown produced music as early as 91 i think. other producers worth a mention are supreme and sunset regime. various other dj's djed before then with old skool and early forms of jungle.

The first Ionosphere vinyl was pressed in 1992 - http://www.discogs.com/Ionosphere-The-Hypertension-EP/release/326399 although we did a dubplate, or possibly two in 1991, and were raving a few years before that, if that's any help....

I don't think snerkler was looking to be educated in early electronic music, he was there himself. He wants to know who was around at the time. I'm mentioning this because it's probably annoying that people are going off topic answering questions that were never asked, and probably quite patronising getting told when Hardcore did and didn't start by people who didn't get into the scene till a long time after he did.

I've been into the scene since 1990. I have an older cousin who got me into it all & used to lend me old tapes which i would record. He also introduced me to pirate radio. I began buying tapes & stuff in 1992 & started to build the collection i have today. 1992 would have to probably be my favourite year closely followed by 95-96. I've also been into Jungle / Drum & Bass from the beginning. I began mixing in 1993 learning to beat match on a crappy pair of belt drives.

Yep, i was around back then.
Been through allsorts in my time, too much to repeat or bore anyone here with!
One thing i would say though, the 'Hit the decks' albums were both great and piss poor at the same time! :P

Well i remember a tape i got hold of in 1989 (i was 15) called "Tin Pan Alley 89" and it had all
these new sounds/style of music or what would be now described as early techno
from about 1990 i went to a couple of illegal raves, although i never really
looked at them as "illegal" to me they where just a bigger than normal party
My first big "legal" rave was a Rezerection event (Royal Highland Centre) in 1991...i think.
the Earthquaker rave summer 1992 in Ayrshire was a good one also
it cost us £5 to get the car towed out the mud by the farmer
he must have made a few ££ that day as loads where stuck lol
To get back on point...my fav time in hardcore was from 1992/93 till around 96/97
i think in 93 with the emergence of the Dutch style geting really popular here (scotland)
and the scottish tunes geting a bit harder really suited my taste in hardcore at that time
As much as i luv the early breakbeat trax myself...i much prefered Bouncy Techno...Gabba etc
i still always bought tapes from Raves down south but i started enjoying them less
to me they seemed to start sounding outdated (early 90`s) just imo/taste
while the scene here was slowly trying new styles from Holland Italy etc as well as england and scotland
the english rave scene seemed to hang on to the breakbeat and jungle sound too long
but i could be wrong as im only going by some tapes i herd years back
i started dj`n in about 1992/93 till 1998/99 and stopped listening to hardcore at that time also
and mostly just listened/bought trance and chillout (still do)
its only the past year or two i started listening to some hardcore again
Anyway lol......so from 1989 till 98.... my fav era is... 1993 till 96/97
although i enjoyed it all and wouldn`t change a thing
and now look back just thankfull i was there

Haha, they were more great than piss poor ;-) The style of mixing (guessing it was all done in a studio) reminds me of the Altern 8 Megamix on the Brutal-8-E CD. Absolute classic, again the mixing is great and bad at the same time, but still something everyone should have in their collection imo ;-)

it is annoying, but it always happens. I'd be lying if I said I never went off topic ;-)

Christ, the early '90's seem a long time agon now... and the world was quite a different place.
Must have been around '91 when the local disco was playing half an hour of "rave" music at the end of the night and by '92 whole nights were getting devoted to Dream Frequency, Terrorize, Awesome 3 etc. etc.
First proper rave for me was Galactica in October '92 with Jumpin' Jack Frost and Joey Beltram the highlights, and after that it was Judgement Days where the bouncy techno and Dutch sound dominated in the mid nineties.
After finishing uni work took over and I didn't get out much but still listened to the music but then started going out again in the early 2000's to Fantasy Island, Vibealites, and Dizstruxshons. That only lasted a few years though before I started feeling too old and the nights seemed to be losing their magic. I still have an interest in the scene and enjoy the music, I think I always will when it's been a part of my life for the best part of 20 years.

since 93/94 through the medium of cassette tapes from older friends, but didnt start going out to events till 2003/2004. but 2005 I stopped cause the music sucked and the oldskool rooms were piss poor. but looking at youtube clips without rose tinted glasses. mid 90s - it does look better! honestly! look at the way people dance for a start, really up for it.

Yes it was, and yes we were. We used to get there hours before an events because we were so excited, and everyone in the queue were in the same mood. It was like one big happy family even before we got in there. The excitement in the queue was electric, let alone what it was like once the event started :-)

I was born in 1987 (year Acid House started it is said although it didn't 'take off' until 1988) But got into real Hardcore around 2004. I pretend it is the 90s stull. IUpfront Mainstream Hardcore lacks anything earlier Hardcore has. Poor attidtudes of mainstream artists, MCs and fans, banging on about how the scene has 'changed' and 'evolved' yet we are still listening to the same crap that came out in 2005! im a fan of Dutch Old Skool alot these days, now if that isn't Hardcore then I don't know what is!
In fact nearly every tune from about 1991-1998 is worth a listen imo
