Just get something better than an Iphone, most modern phones usually are and a lot lot lot cheaper.
Apart from calling people (obviously) what else do you plan on doing with it?

Oh that's such a "shitty phone".
My phone has been trusty and true for five+ years now. Screw these damn new phones. Seriously, though, they're flimsy as hell and break so easily. Mine has survived throw after throw, and drop after drop.
iPhone isn't worth it, too expensive IMO. But you already have AT&T, so it's not like you're changing form anything. But, internet anywhere will cost big time; using Wi-Fi is an option, at hot spots.
And Vonage released an App. for the iPhone to place calls through wifi:
quote:
iPhone owners will be able to place calls from Wi-Fi or through AT&T's network.
According to Vonage, its app will help users save up to 50 percent on international calling charges levied by carriers. After downloading the app, users need to enter an international number. They can also select a call recipient from their existing iPhone or BlackBerry contacts list. Those who receive calls will see the user's cell phone number on their caller IDs. Charges will be taken against the user's credit card, which they need to input when they first start using the app.
Whether you'd be able to use that or not, I don't know. But figured knowing that you could possibly save money on calling with it was worth telling if you get it.

iPhone is overrated, get something else.
Also, $80 for an iPhone is ridiculously cheap, at least compared to Norwegian prices

thats why im thinking about getting it, brand new iphone 3gs is about $220 for a 16gb i think
so $80 is pretty cheap if i say so
so is there a phone like the iphone that has full web, touch screen, mp3 player and under $100?
has anyone have any bad things happen to their iphone 3g, not 3gs the 3g?

iPhone is fragile.
You'll need to buy a hard rubber case for it like: http://www.amazon.com/Speck-Products-Tough-iPhone-Black/dp/B001B8YN9E/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&s=wireless&qid=1256597530&sr=8-12 And get a screen protector like: http://www.amazon.com/Reusable-Protector-Accessory-Export-Packaging/dp/B001UO651S/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=wireless&qid=1256597595&sr=8-2 It should hopefully protect it from not so hard falls, and protect the screen from scratches.

eww iphone
save your money and get a real phone =P
my next phone is probably going to be the htc hd2 when that gets released here next year
too many things I don't like about the iphone. can't replace the battery, have to buy another phone for more hard drive space, can't play flash, etc.
you might also consider holding out for the android phone they are going to release on at&t

He asked about it, so I provided some information I knew about it.
Btw, do you have any links about what features are coming with Android, and what it actually looks like? The commercial on TV tells me nothing!

t-mobile has had android for over a year, they have 3 phones (g1, my touch, & motorola cliq) sprint has 2 (samsung moment & htc hero)
android is an open source project run on the linux kernel, so developers are able to easily create great applications.
here's android's official website

Dunno why everyone's against the iphone, I have one and think it's the best thing since sliced bread. I guess it all depends on what you use your phone for.
The iphone apps are amazing and very useful, obviously has a great MP3 player. Having the TRUE internet at your fingertips has been a god send to me, also having proper email, inlcuding hotmail, is also a god send. There's only one bad thing with the iphone and that's the camera, but I have a digital camera anyway.
I can't praise the iphone enough, it is the best gadget on the market, and a great phone. And as for being fragile, I'm not so sure. I've dropped mine several times onto concrete floors and it's fine, not even a scratch on the screen.
The touch screen on the iphone is second to none. I dare say once you've used this touchscreen no other touch screen will come close. I don't know how Apple have done it but it's amazing.
