Okay here's the details of my latest gala race!
Competition: National Swimming League, London Region, Division 2, Round 2
Venue: Eltham Leisure Centre
Date: 14th Nov 2009
Event: 100m Open Boys Freestyle/Front Crawl
Eventual Time: 58:42
Position: 5th/8
Lane 6
Team Position: 3rd overall
Now this was a tricky gala! Halstead against rivals Sudbury, who you may remember me thinking about joining! Amongst other teams were Velubian (??), Rochdale (who won the competition), Enfield, Saxon Crown, Brompton & Hownslow.
Long term rival Ash Buckley won this race with a time of 55 seconds. This was a race I put my all into but I couldn't deliver the goods in the end. The first 50m was a high 27 seconds, which was okay, and the second 50m was a medium 30, which was poor... Nevertheless it was a solid swim and I'm pleased with my performance, but being beaten by 3 other people by only a second was frustrating! The standard tfrom my opposition was a far higher standard than swimmers in the last gala. This was the cream-of-the-cream.
It was an interesting race, the water was very murkey and all I could see was Ash's bubbles. The last length was a mission, lactic acid developed in my arms and it became a huge struggle. All part of the fun, I suppose... Still...
Before the race I was in the zone.. I've never been more focused and more in the right psyche... I new what I wanted and how to get it. Can't explain the feeling, but it was good. I needed a 57 before the end of the year, and I was going to blast it to get it. Shame it didnt go to plan!! I think my tumble turns were too slow on the first and last turns... but oh well... I can only try and work on them in training.
The video was taken from the venue stands by a fellow swimmer. I was swimming in Lane 6 (3rd from the far side) in the long blue leg-skins and white cap, just beyond Ash, the bald more muscular one.
Just want to add: Jesus London looks amazing at night! Drove under the O2 areana and past Greenwich and it's a beautiful place :)
I was also listening to London Elektricity - Just One Second (Apex Remix) so that somewhat exaggerated the beauty!

Yes it is, I like it....
Maybe it's because I'm a Londoner that I like London so.
Maybe it's because I'm a Londoner that I think of 'er wherever I go.
I gets this funny feelin' insida me, jus' walkin' up an' dahn.
Maybe it's because I'm a Londoner that I love London Tahn.
mnmm.... d'you think there's a Hardcore remix to be had?
Indeed! But I'll leave the remixing to you!
Also, I've decided to stay at Halstead.
It's more convenient, cheaper and I have my place in the races and whatnot. There are many reasons, which I'll post here tomorrow, for now, im exhausted...

Yeah that could have something to do with it. That song would make even my shithole of a hometown look beautiful. I've always wanted to go to Landan.

I'm not entirely familiar with the whole sport and teams and all, and even though you didn't win that was some really good swimming on your part! Nice job and good luck next time! :)

Thanks peeps. I've had to study that video, and I've determined that the 1st and 3rd turns ae where i went mainly wrong... 2nd turn infact got me back into the race.
Next race should be on the 5th December.
I've not been selected for the 200m races on the 28th, understandably so, i hate them.
swim.com seems to be more about leisurley swimming. tbh im not really part of any swim communities online.. I just keep up to date with my club's old one and the 'National Arena Swimming League' site.
