To be honest it's really odd, but I've always been into music, although pretty much up until 2007 I barely listened to ANYTHING. It was always either some video game music, random crappy albums you find in the wal-mart bargain bin, or various songs that are played to death, over and over, every day on radio stations around here (radio quality seems to be incredibly higher in Britain and most European countries IMO). When I got my first hardcore album (Dancemania Trance Ravers, and yes, it's a hardcore mix) it basically opened up huge palace doors to music in general for me, although it's really overwhelming to be honest. My collections of various genres combined are minuscule in comparison to my hardcore collection. A lot of the time I'll see people on here and other sites talking about other genres and in general I have no idea about what's being discussed (unless it's mainstream, and no I'm not saying that in a derogatory way), and I feel like an idiot.
Hopefully this won't come off as mopey or anything, but am I dumb or is it something else? Maybe you could recommend me some good mixes I could pick up related to non-hardcore genres (with gabber being an exception)?
Cheers.

Obviously remove the 1 from mini.
Basically eletronica. I know this will make some people reel back in their office chairs (or whatever they're sitting in/on), but the only non-electronica genres I'm truly interested in are jazz and some orchestral. I don't even like rock much (I love the electric guitars though!)

And in terms of Hard Trance I can push you towards Kidd Kaos.
I usually never stick to one artist in terms of release after release that I just love, but he seems always to do it. I always like most of his stuff, which is rare. Usually I like a few songs, then the rest of the releases don't do it for me.

We do have it pretty good round these parts, unlucky mate, but there is good stuff out there. Just got to search for it. No youtube vids, just full on mixes!
And, if you can, subscribe to the Hospital and Liquicity podcasts on iTunes.
Enjoy. I need to get some of these mixes downloaded too actaully.

Those last 3 Trance tunes, good suggestions. If there is any one genre i would suggest to anyone other than Hardcore (actually to be honest i'd never suggest Hardcore lol), i would say 1998-2001 Trance, absolutely amazing stuff. Have a gander at Trance Nation 2 (or 1 even, it's just not as good imo), In Search Of Sunrise 1, Clubbers Guide to Trance. Those would be good starting points for some classic Trance.
While i'm here, here is a nice hard set: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=N7A822QF

Well I think 2010 is going to be the year the American perception of dance music will change. There's many artists now pushing the electro hip-hop thing (Tiesto, Guetta...) and its dam popular in the clubs and I just get the sense that, weither for good or bad, something big i gonna happen this coming year.
So maybe that would be a good place to start? I'll post some examples of what I'm on about.
Dont hate me for posting this stuff guys but hopefully ye'll see where I'm coming from.
I refuse to post "Sexy Chick" but that would be one to look up aswel while you're at it.

Thank you for the really good suggestions so far guys! And yes, I'm mostly looking for mixes (preferably with tracklists).
@The "real music" comment... he meant acoustic. :P
