Okay, listen here. I live in the eastern state of Virginia. Nobody here even knows what 'Electronic dance music' is beyond "OH DAT SANDSTORM STUFF LIEK BASSHUNTER AND TECHNO WAT?" etc.
Point is, we don't even have raves. And we never will. Never.
So QQ
LOL. Man Americans are odd. How can they be so oblivious to like 50% of commercial music.

Yeah but Finnish rock for example is not a large percentage of the worlds music. Nor is coutry, not to our generation.
Darude is pretty big worldwide, hes debut album sold 800k worldwide.
Taylor Swift is pretty big worldwide, her Fearless album has sold almost 5000k worldwide.
Electronic music isn't a large percentage of worlds music, and thats the problem.

Why people who listen to dance care that they do is beyond me. Just get over it and stop being elitist.
It's not being elitist, at any point in time.
If you go around calling someone who listens to Death Metal, and kept calling it Punk Rock, don't you think they would try to correct you? Someone listens to Rap, you call it R&B, they'd correct you.
Why is it not okay to call something the wrong genre in other genre's, but it's okay in Electronic?

EXACTLY!
the fact that u correct ppl shows how devoted u r 2 ur music. i don't give a damn whether i get funny looks or snappy comebacks when i correct them with the right genre. in fact, i give them an example like 1&only just did and then they understand and respect the correction i gave them.
and yea i'm in a fraternity and pretty much the only EDM they kno in here and always play it is Sandstorm and Kernkraft 400 Zombie Nation!

is it really "beyond you"?...sounds like you are very easy to confuse :P
No but more popular music like Rap doesn't get confused as much. People just don't care whether it's hardcore or trance, etc. in the US.
When people say "techno," I don't get on them and say "it's hardcore!" I just smile, be friendly, and let it slide. Chances are they would keep calling it techno no matter what I say.
And yes, the only songs anyone here knows are Sandstorm, Zombie Nation, and Now You're Gone. So sad.

Haha you ass.
The dance section here is so sad. It's basically "ultimate dance of 2009!!!" with a tracklist that looks like:
1. Tiesto - A Track That Sounds Like All My Others... But You'll Still Buy It
2. Britney Spears - 3 (Tiesto Remix)
3. Hilary Duff - Does Anyone Care?????? (Tiesto Bass+ Remix)
4. Katy Perry - I Kissed A Girl (Tiesto's Live Extra VEC Downlifters Mix)
