Okay, so I have been toying around with the idea of hosting an event in my head. The problem I have is I have no clue where to start! I am figuring I would need at least $5,000-10,000 to make something worth going to. Anyone here have any experience?

Dude Go Green! It's so much less if you supporting eco-friendly stuff.
Just learned that this weekend from a friend's jail friend who is studying promoting raves in jail as part of an on-site parole.

You don't need that much, we also made some! Everything you need is a good location ( the best would be somewhere outside a city, but not too far away, in a hangar, since it's winter now, and it's ****ing cold outside! ), equipement doesn't cost anything if you already have one, otherwise you can rent it, doesn't cost too much ( if your scared yours gets confiscated by the police ) and yeah that's pretty much it :-)
Well it actually depends wether you want to do a real event in a real club and stuff like that or just a simple illegal rave party :P
Which would look like this:

Surely that's completely FREE.... it's one of the great things about imagination.

The words 'real event' and 'club' most certainly do not go together, lol. Clubs are terrible venues.

I'm always down to do something illegal, but it'd be hard to pull that off in the Metro-Milwaukee area. That's where I'd get the most party goers too. As long as I come close to breaking even I'm happy. Personally I'm just sick of sub-par house/euro dance DJs, shitty people, banned glowsticks, and expensive WATER.

The first and obviously the most important thing you have to do is find a suitable venue. When you first look at the venue, look for residential areas nearby who might be disturbed by noise. It will certainly help you if you are located in an industrial area or next to a railway line or noisy road. Avoid busy areas which could attract unwanted attention.
The venue will need to be secured and a safe environment for people to party in. It will also need adequate soundproofing, and it will need to have suitable toilet facilities for your expected crowd. As a guideline, to avoid over-long queues and other unpleasantness you will need one toilet for every 80 people.
You will also need to ensure that the building is fire safe. It should have several possible exits. It is important that there is no trash, broken glass, or dangerous obstructions in, or in the immediate environment of, the building. This can give the police a reason to shut the party down.
You will need one bouncer for every 150 people. Remember that the bouncers are there to protect your party against gatecrashers and to sort out any trouble and in my opinion it is essential to get professionals who are trained in first aid. There are plenty of firms who can supply excellent staff and they can really help people to feel safe and secure at a party.
