I like the freeze, on the basis that Silver is likely to trust a mod's decision, especially if the link to the thread is posted

maybe not perma bans but 48/72 hour bans, whichever is most appropriate, these then get forwarded to silver for further action.
What i was going to prupose
I've asked silver to do a "freeze account" button for us mods few years ago, hasn't yet done it. Mod's freeze the account, and when silver signs in, he can decide what to do.
As for giving ban hammer for mods, id vote 'no', and pretty sure silver would too.
this sounds very reasonable
i wonder if the link will appear in our accounts with a rollover that says "coming soon" ;)
lol I'd tell you my mood in reaction to that but i can't :p

If that can't be done, how about just a warning on the topic so we can decide whether to look or not?

I do think the mods should have the power to temp ban people but I can understand why Silver has reserved the right to perma ban though.
We get this kind of thing every now and then where some one posts a load of spam/troll posts and half of the forum goes crazy and starts demanding more mods and stuff. At the end of the day the mods are only human and as such they can't be online waiting on this site all the time and when they are online they do a great job. I do think it would be a good idea to have a US mod due to the time difference and maybe one more UK mod as Underloop appears to be tied up with other commitments at the moment.

just realised i didnt cast a vote
i just dont think its fair for mods to get caught in a who can delete or post faster battle..... when a quick ban gives the mod time to delete ALL the previous spam/troll posts
like has been said, to become a mod, has already earned trust, take the trust one step further, after all, all bans can be removed by admin

You would be surprised how offended some people get when you just delete their posts. I have loads of PM's by people insulting me in a variety of ways :D Silver wants to keep a "friendly atmosphere" where the moderating is as discrete as possible. And i agree with him on that. If mod's get banning option it opens a possibility for misuse. If silver later revokes the ban, the damage could already be done.

Yeah they should definitely be allowed to ban.
To be honest i don't see why they don't already have the power to temp ban...
