last line was for me as well, but i was pointing out that '********, i liked it' is not a conclusive argument against my point. But i'm not going to challenge the fact that you liked it, because you liking something is your own opinion. As for the cliche story, that is much more objectively 'fact' than the subjectiveness of opinion. As for why he used it, I'm going to go with this: its much easier to plagiarise then to be creative. And given that he worked so hard to be creative on the visuals, I can excuse that to the point where it doesnt bother me all that much.
No it wasen't for u, it wasent a argument for the movie beeing good, that would be a supid argument.. I just told u that I liked it.. And ye many movies are similar.. its not plagiarizing, if u think like that almost any movie is similar to another and has simililar build up and story line.. same with music, if u make a track in thesame genre as another movie its not plagiarizing

um, yeh. it really is. Same shit different day. If you take one story, leave the storyline the same but change the environment and peoples names, its plagiarism. Try it at uni, and you can get expelled.
The genre argument is invalid. Fight Club is drama, Green Mile is drama. They are two utterly different movies while in the same genre. As for music, a similar thing would be completely copying the music and chord progression, keeping the chorus but changing a a few of the verses a bit. Try that and you can land yourself in serious trouble
You need to chill, mate. For the record, I liked the movie too. But I don't smell roses when someone sticks shit under my nose. Without the visual experience that the movie provided, which was simply phenomenal, I would have only given it average at best.

A pile of shit. A steaming turd dumped upon the cinematic world and then subsequently eaten by the masses. Not a single original idea was in this movie. Everyone is on about the visuals, look at 3d animation coming out of Japan less than 5 years ago. It's on par if not better. This movie really just shows how little people care about quality movies. Ohhh! Bass drop! Oohhhh! 3d glasses! Seriously, this movie was 3 hours of cinematic masturbation on Cameron's part. Yeah I know you can render grass in the wind realistically, but why does it all still look fake?

Because it's going to take a long ass time, if at all, to be able to animate "realistically".

that may be the case in australia, and if it is, y'alls plagiarizing laws really do suck.
in the US the basic idea behind the movie, story, etc is not plagiarizing. for example, romeo & juliet vs west side story. both of them pretty much have the same exact plot. by clear definition it may seem like it's plagiarizing, but legally speaking it is not because you can't copyright a theme or idea of a movie, story, song, etc. but you can copyright Romeo & Juliet as a whole.
also 1 of my friends compared the plot pretty much to be the same as Dances with Wolves

I don't know what the plagiarism laws for movies are.
Just saying that copying the story and changing character names, is in essence plagiarism
